So here we go again as the season is now past the midway point and we're expecting the trade deadline to come crashing on us and still some teams sit on a so-so year and wait... oh well, such is the life of a UBA league it seems. Today we're focussing on the blue-collar workers in the team. Maybe that's what's wrong with USA basketball right now - you've got the Durant's and Irving's of the world but perhaps there's not enough guys doing the graft work - that and a lack of understanding of the international game maybe. Anyways.. here's to the guys that put in work...

(20-29) KC-Omaha Kings 24 33 32 27 - 116 (Larry Foust 22)
(17-31) Cleveland Caval 41 28 30 36 - 135 (Al Green 25)
Amazingly KC Kings with a very average 20-29 record sit (and fairly comfortably so) IN the playoff picture for the once-vaunted NBA conference! Today they lose to the fairly poor Cavs who could still catch them it seems. Good news is that if you're in the NBA conference a .500 record is looking like a shoe-in for playoffs this year. Cavs have a couple of blue-collar guys for sure; Camby and Chandler at the big and Billups at the guard. Kurland and Foust worked for the Kings but Bosh was awful and the game wasn't close in the end..

I was going to write about blue-collar workers and then this barnstorming OT game happened! Well well, we have a bitch load of points and not a whole heck of a lot of D and low rebounds for an OT game. Tiny played a ridiculous 46 minutes in this one and played well going up against Steve Nash who was even better. 31 points and 13 assists for Nash - fancy as including sealing the game at the end and then getting that curious UBA bug that sends him to the injury list for playing well. Dan Roundfield plays with Gus Johnson and Dolph Schayes in Trenton - tough blue-collar lineup but the team slips to .500 with this L and the early season start is a fading memory...

(32-16) Utah Stars 51 30 30 25 - 136 (Warren Jabali 38)
Warren Jabali wow! Jabali is used sparingly by the Stars but when Frazier hobbled off at the end of the first quarter (joining Lou Williams and Jimmy Butler in the sickbay) in came Jabali and exploded for 38 points in the remaining 36 minutes. Chuck in 3 steals and a bit of everything for Warren as he took his chance to shine. Very funny injuries this year for the Stars - to start all our big men out at the same time, now all our guards - a bit unlucky I think, but you know the chances when you pick injured guys (although Frazier is now missing his 3rd game of an 80 game real-life season). Next game will be a tester for Utah away without Frazier, Butler or Williams (time for Toney to show off his abilities ahead of trade deadline). Claws rely heavily on Cousy and have been trying to show off Christie - though he sucked today with his 6 points in 33 minutes, 5 turnovers, 5 fouls and 30% shooting. Duncan is the poster-boy for blue-collar, but today Jordan Hill worked his way to a double-double for the injury-struck Stars. Oh yeah, game was a blowout - 51 points in the first quarter by the Stars!

Royals over Cougars. I like Kenon, he's a worker 14 boards going with his 10 points, 10 for Haywood too. Andre Miller for the Cougars is a tough no-nonsense guard and he gets his double-double today too, but not enough to overcome Jimmy Jackson's scoring.

(30-17) Toronto Raptors 24 33 35 33 - 125 (Oscar Schmidt 23)
Marquee matchup for the day sees the ABA tops heading to Toronto to face the (until recently) top-rated Raps. Close one through 3 was blown open in the fourth as the Squires did what they do and shot the bejeezus out the ball. Nearly 60% on the game led by Curry's 42 (16/26 and 5/12 on 3s). Raps under 50% today just not enough, no stopping the Squires without defense today or any day this season it seems.

(14-34) Denver Nuggets 31 37 31 29 - 128 (Bobby McDermott 26)
Rockets roll the Nuggets as expected. Kawhi is another blue-collar worker but at the wing position. Steals, Rebounds, Points, Fouls, Hustle. Houston right back on track getting Gobert and Favors back - don't underestimate role players in these leagues.

(35-13) Washington Wiza 22 26 30 29 - 107 (Bob Lanier 16)
(30-17) Minnesota Muski 35 36 33 35 - 139 (Willie Naulls 21)
Muskies get a huge W over the hot Wizards - they need it too with both Utah and San Diego continuing to play well recently. Surprisingly this one was a blow-out - nothing stunning in the stats but assists were at 42 for Minny showing that good ball movement leads to easy scoring opportunities. No standouts for Washington either, although Harper did manage to foul out in 15 minutes of reserve play!
