Day 24 is dedicated to the jobs what I have done. No, grammatically that's not great, but you can blame Stan for his daft idea that got me thinking, I'm going to link my jobs to the writeups (I don't do writeups that have nothing to do with the games - not my style!).

So my current job is working at Waiariki Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Polytechnic which is the local poly or 'tech' to locals (think institute of technology if you will). I'm the manager there for quality, teaching and learning. Syracuse visits the low-quality Nets and offer plenty of teaching along the way. The big question is do the Nets do any learning during this process? Syracuse is the home of current NBA champ Lebron and young scorer DeRozan as well as some classic high quality guys like David Robinson and Steve Nash. Brooklyn has current guys like Stanley Johnson and Zach Lavine so they are really hoping to learn more about the game to be able to compete. Today they couldn't and the Nationals taught class on their ass.

Before taking on this job (and still, truth be known) I ran my own company Kanuka Consulting; we're basically about people and learning (HR and Learning Consultancy if you will) with my wonderful wife Kim taking the HR stuff on and me, well, learning is my bag I guess... so let's call me director of learning. Going out on your own can be scary, almost like writing up your own games in UBAL - oh, this is my one! My Stars travel to OKC to test our business savvy against an established foe with a solid 8-5 record. Good thing about working for yourself is that when it goes well there's a lot of satisfaction, same with this game today, Elgin is anagramatically my name and a bit of a personal fave for me, although he had an off-night today. Slack was picked up by Walton who was huge (16 and 19) and a real-nice game by Warren Jabali. Key to this team is like my business, right people for the right job - Frazier and Butler lead the way with a great assortment of bigs to get it done. Happy days and a superb win on the road as Tim Duncan and Dwight Howard are due back next game! Talking of going out on your own, that's exactly what Iverson was up to today - 30 points for the dreadlocked warrior, plenty of injury woes for OKC...

My job before was working for Kineo who is a global e-learning company, I was the learning technologies manager there for 4 years, working predominantly from home. Who was working from home in Orlando? Only Cedric Ceballos with his 17 points in 16 minutes seemed up for this one as the Magic get bounced behind strong games from Calvin Natt, Westbrook, Lever, Kellogg and Davis. Are Spurs going to be able to defend their title this year? It's going to come down to management, luck and an understanding of the technology for Shaun to repeat.

Wind back a little further and I worked for our ambulance service (St John Ambulance) here in NZ. I
actually held two roles there; National Training Manager for the emergency communications centre and then quality manager. Communications maybe the issue in Trenton who seem to have lost their early momentum dropping this one easily to the Condors, it's definitely not a quality issue as both teams have plenty of names, but the experience of the young Cagers may mean at times they lose their way. That was a large part of the comms centre work, helping operators take those emergency calls and be able to locate where the incident was. This one was easy, it was in Pittsburgh! Sprewell went for 25 in the win.

Before that I was in the Royal New Zealand Navy as an Education Officer for about 4 years, most of my work was around the use of technology in training. If I'd put more thought into this silly blog, I
would have tied up one of my Navy jobs with the David Robinson game that I did first, but that would have screwed my chronological order! Spurs get a quick turnaround and play two today, of course I've played for two navies too - I'll get more on to that in a second. Being an officer in the armed forces is predominantly about leadership, Squires seem to have successfully passed the leadership of their team on to young phenom Steph Curry and he doesn't disappoint with 26 today in his 33 minutes. Playing for the NZ Navy a few years ago we faced the Australian defence force team, the score was very similar to this one today I recall as we were splattered by there superior teamwork (and size let's be honest). Spurs clearly tired from their previous outing get bounced big style by the Squires.

Yikes, I'm almost running out of career... but only almost, my first teaching job came before the Park one as I was a physics teacher at Cowplain High School. Some of you know this, the rest are probably stunned that someone as seemingly stupid as me actually has some qualifications! I've got to say at this point of life I look back very fondly of my first teaching gig at Cowplain and in many ways this was my favourite job. Speaking of favourites, I grew up watching Magic, but Jordan, wow Jordan. Jordan was once tested by physicists at NASA for his hang-time I remember, funnily enough he turned out human, but it sure never looked that way when he played. Today we go OT!! Durant v Jordan with great supporting casts in both teams this was worthy of my first job. Best thing about that job was my first real boss Paul - he was superb and I loved that guy (he died tragically a few years back after I emigrated here) - maybe the best thing about the Rockets is also Paul, Chris Paul - triple double today although the 11 turnovers are not as good as the 27 points and 13 assists! Great win for the Rockets, but boy these two will surely face again with fireworks! I made some fireworks in my first teaching job too... not as impressive as the real ones but it was fun just the same!

Although teaching was my first job after university, I also worked my way through uni - mostly by working on building sites as a labourer believe it or not! If I needed a good link for this one you can thank Lenny Wilkens and the 2-11 performance; bricks galore! Kobe wasn't labouring though, he was building a lead instead and the Qs have been surprisingly good so far. That's it for today, I've also
worked some part-time roles before those jobs; barman, computer work, builder's yard, supermarket and paperboy - but hell, that's enough about me eh?!
