UBAS 6 Day 26

I could have done another live game blog for these ones but I honestly think it might have killed me! Took about 2.5 hours and 3 beers to complete (beers don't come in halves fellas) :)

Today is day 26.  26 is a funny number for me, being born on the 26 September I think I have some things in common with the number and certainly in and around the UBA.  In UBAL I took over the 26th team when they originally expanded from the 20 something they had.  UBAL Utah Stars are still dteam26 on the UBA site.  Until this year the UBAS New York Knicks were also dteam26 - but an addition by subtraction has reduced me down to team 24 I believe... oh well.  To add further to my links with the magic number, the new UBAG league I was the one running the lottery and still managed to end up with a lowly... yes you guessed it... 26th pick.

Okay, enough useless numeric trivia - On to the games...

Injuries
Jerry Lucas 2
Billy Knight 3
Bobby Jones 1
Shaquille O’Neal 9 - Diesel down, diesel down!

So just to play around a little I'm giving you two scores for each game, the first is what I think would be a good outcome, then you can have the real one and the real records!

Bucks 109 - Spirits 111
What a treat for the fans of the lowly neither here-nor there Spirits as they stage a second half comeback agains the super hot Bucks.  Coool duel between Peja and AI - although AI took a damn lot of shots for his 30 points (32) whereas Peja was uber efficient scoring 27 on just 13 shots.  Of course Iverson hit the triple at the buzzer to steal the game away from the Bucks and that was the difference maker.  To rub salt in the wounds the Bucks lose their entire starting 5 to injury.

(11- 4) Milwaukee Bucks 26 30 30 23 - 109 (Peja Stojakovic 27)
( 2-13) St Louis Spirit 23 18 32 24 - 97 (Allen Iverson 27)
In reality Iverson missed the last 5 shots and the Bucks held on for the W.  Peja did indeed get 27 off 13 shots - Iverson matched with 27 of his own - with 31 guns.  Jerry Lucas popped up with a useful 15 points and 14 boards before going down injured for a couple of games - things won't get easier immediately for the Spirits.  The Bucks didn't really get anyone injured and they move on to an NBA best 11-4... never mind...

Bullets 92 - Hornets 112.
Like the Bucks the Bullets are rolling and sitting up the top of the NBA conference, but unlike the Bucks they stutter in this one falling to a Hornets team that is getting closer to the .500 team that they at least look on paper.  Oscar Robertson is a fun player to have on your team and today he was all over the court - 27 points, rebounds and assists of course and a bunch of steals and some key blocks on Havlicek and Stock.  Turned out a bit of a blowout and the Bullets didn't win a single quarter...

(10- 5) Baltimore Bulle 21 25 19 27 - 92 (Paul Westphal 24)
( 7- 8) Charlotte Horne 24 33 34 21 - 112 (Oscar Robertson 27)
Yeah kinda like I said, except the Bullets did win the final period - unfortunately for them it was just junk time - huge rebounding edge for the Hornets - 57-42.  Hornets should carry this over and get above .500 soon.  Bullets will be just fine.

Lakers 107 - Warriors 108
The big question was whether the Warriors could bounce from their pitiful appearance in Day 24 where the Lakers embarrassed them by 40 odd points... the tone was set early as they came out and blitzed the Lakers with some great team play and pinpoint passing from Porter... problem is that the Lakers didn't quite roll-over as easily as the Golden State outfit hoped and came roaring back in the fourth to tie the game in the final minute.  Some clutch free throw shooting by Porter sealed the hang-on win for the Warriors! Lakers lose!

(10- 5) LA Lakers 25 25 25 32 - 107 (Al Horford 20)
( 5-10) Golden State Wa 36 26 31 22 - 115 (Terry Porter 17)
Ooh better than I hoped in this one as TP and the Warriors did confuse the Lakers but there was no need for a dramatic finish as this game wasn't as close as the final scoreline suggests with the Lakers down as many as 18 in the final period.  Lakers continue to use a very short lineup for these games - just playing 8 guys again in the loss.  Of note Horford with 20 points in 21 mins on 90% shooting... Lakers drop to 10-5 like the Bullets before them.

Pistons 104 Dayton 103
Massive duel with MJ duelling Kobe and Westbrook combined! 50 points for his airness, 30 for Kobe and 19 for Westbrook and that was the final difference.  Jordan on the final play step back over Wiggins for the W!

( 8- 7) Fort Wayne Pist 33 22 30 19 - 104 (Michael Jordan 23)
( 1-14) Dayton Metropol 23 21 22 19 - 85 (Russell Westbrook 16)
MJ showed up but unfortunately Westbrook and Kobe only tallied 16 a piece and Oakley grabbed a huge 17 boards (including 8 offensive) and this one wasn't ever close.  Shame I like my version more...

Rockets 126 - Braves 127 OT
Huge buzzer beater by new man Harden downs the Rockets in OT!!

(11- 4) Denver Rockets 22 27 31 34 - 114 (Al Jefferson 23)
( 9- 5) Buffalo Braves 38 31 32 26 - 127 (James Harden 21)
Yeah in reality a bit easier for the home town Braves as they take down the previous league leading Rockets - Harden 21 and Curry 20 for the new dream backcourt was fun - but don't sleep on Dice and his 17 points and 15 boards and that was the real difference maker in this one.  Jabbar solid in defeat with 22 and 14 in efficient style (5 blocks and 2 steals too but foul trouble kept him out early).

Blackhawks 148 - Indians 158
Monster scoring game with the Indians finally unleashing some frustration with their big front line of Pettit, Schayes and Dr J running the post game to perfection and Lou Hudson and Gus Williams driving for guard scoring.

( 7- 8) Tri-Cities Blac 21 30 33 32 - 116 (Scottie Pippen 25)
( 5-10) Brooklyn Indian 30 41 27 28 - 126 (Bob Pettit 20)
Wasn't quite that high-scoring after all - we did see a good all-round performance from the highly talented Indians.  They will make the playoffs despite their record and some claiming they have chemistry issues - I don't see it, a strong outfit poised for a good run, count yourselves lucky if you played them early in the season.

Knicks 127 - Stars 27
Yes in the most ridiculously one-sided matchup in NBA history, West scores 30 points on just one shot attempt and the Knicks dish out more assists then they had field goals (:/).  Starting point guard Armstrong out rebounded the Stars on his own and Mikan was 5-5 from down town.

(11- 4) New York Knicks 37 40 27 23 - 127 (Jerry West 27)
( 5-10) LA Stars 28 19 37 27 - 111 (Shaquille O'Neal 23)
Hey a win is a win on the road and we're happy to get it even if it wasn't quite as one-sided as I was looking for. 10 dimes for Armstrong, Elgin continues on his tear and West with an efficient 27 on 18 shots (rather than one). Shaq was 23 and 9 but got injured in the fourth and that was all she wrote. Knicks tie with Bucks for best NBA conference record.

Rens 134 - Generals 134
Unfortunately neither team was awarded a win and they were both fined 10 games for fixing an impossible outcome in a UBA game.  TMac - who is now upgraded to a lottery player - finished with 31 and matched (well.. nearly) by Al Cervi's 27.

(12- 3) New York Rens 28 37 32 37 - 134 (Tracy McGrady 31)
( 9- 6) Washington Gene 39 34 28 38 - 139 (Al Cervi 27)
Apparently UBAS rules prevent draws from occurring so regrettably someone has to win this one... Good news for this not unified in their hate for Ty's Generals is that the giant killers do it again and take down the league's best team in the early running the NY RENs.  McGrady does edge out Cervi but the Gens get the W and move a step closer.  ABA's best now only half a game ahead of the best records in the NBA (yes plural).  Good news for mister McG was that he was top of the pops tonight with his performance, Grant Hill 4th and Barkley 9th... not enough.  Gens were beaten by Rens yesterday in NY so a good bounce-back W for them.

Texas 120 - Trenton 121
A nail biter to finish off the games today.  Mark Aguirre was a nice pickup for Texas and they're off to a much better start than expected, but today they get edged by the Tigersb
( 9- 6) Texas Chaparral 31 24 29 21 - 105 (Mark Aguirre 26)
( 5-10) Trenton Tigers 39 24 25 36 - 124 (Antoine Walker 22)
Not so close actually, but yes the Tigers of Trenton do get the W behind Antoine Walker's 22 points even though Aguirre did have a solid game scoring 26.
