UBAL 12 Day 54
Okay, it's rolled around to my writeup again so I'll bore you with my continued efforts to talk about basketball, basketball and nothing but basketball. Not that I don't enjoy our little diversion therapy sessions into top tens and the like, it's just not me, not my style if you will. In fact, I'm going to write a book I think, that way I can reach and bore an even wider audience (in theory, if no-one reads it then the width of the audience becomes highly questionable). Just basketball you say? Okay, yeah I've been known to wander off topic too, it's just a little less structured...
Injuries - yay, a good injury day today (meaning not many, not that it's a good day to be injured; although if you were - you would at least be in a small select group rather than just one of many)

(23- 5) Baltimore Claws 36 39 25 26 - 126 (Allen Iverson 22)
Unfortunately (from a purely competing perspective) the Aces weren't quite able to pull off the shock victory in Baltimore. Danno is a big Finley fan so it would have been ironic that he finished the game with a winner but not quite the story book ending for Carbondale. Instead little Ramon Sessions scored a point per minute in his eleven minutes and got the winning drive with less than ten on the clock but Finley was unable to get his nineteen footer to sink and the Claws escape with the W to the delight of the home crowd. Best record in the ABA and only a tick below the Rockets for the wonder-start Claws.
(15-13) Denver Nuggets 27 32 43 23 - 125 (Reggie Williams 34)
(16-12) Oakland Oaks 23 25 22 37 - 107 (Dwight Howard 28)
I actually traded with Tony many eons ago Dwight Howard. Seeing the way Howard has regressed (yet still having some nice stats along the way) I don't regret it too much. He has an alpha male physique and wants to be top dog, but doesn't have the personal drive or attributes to achieve it. Today's game was dominated by the passing of the Denver Nuggets though, led by little point guard Ty Lawson - 20 points and 16 dimes, many to Reggie Williams who top scored with a mighty 34. No real fight in Oakland and only a big last quarter made it look more respectable than it was.

( 9-19) Minnesota Muski 30 30 34 27 - 121 (Peja Stojakovic 22)
Close one in Minnesota as the Americans come oh so close but fall just short of the Muskies. Peja and Paul had fun chucking up shots and a good sub-game between DeRozan and Nick the quick (both double-doubles with twenty points) was denied a game winner as the team shared turnovers in the last minutes and no-one was able to get a shot off and Minnesota held on for the W; closing in on 10!
(14-15) Harlem Rens 19 25 16 10 - 70 (Cedric Ceballos 16)
(19- 9) Toronto Raptors 36 18 16 29 - 99 (Kevin Durant 19)
Not really a big surprise game as the Rens have been fading of late and the Raptors surging. Not a single stand-out on the Raptors today (Durant solid of course) but the alarming stat is only 13 assists for Harlem total. Wilt had 20 boards but 3 of 17 shooting really hurts.
(13-16) Carolina Cougar 29 30 24 21 - 104 (Hersey Hawkins 22)
(20- 8) Virginia Squire 26 38 29 15 - 108 (Stephen Curry 31)
Another unfortunate game as the Cougars nearly pull off the upset by holding the high-scoring Squires to a low 15 points in the fourth and again it was a shooters' battle with the Hawk and Curry going at each other. If Steph Curry can stay healthy he's a real battler and his 31 today come despite going 0-5 on 3s. In a day of sub-battles it was good to see A-Train and Moses go toe-to-toe - greater efficiency from Artis and that was probably the difference. 20 wins to Ginny and they're looking strong (unfortunately again!).

(19- 9) San Antonio Spu 37 28 43 32 - 140 (Russell Westbrook 28)
Damn it ABA leading teams when are you going to tow the line and start losing games eh? Russell Westbrook and his groove were both on and that was all she wrote for Lebron and co. Bit of an off day for Lebron, but ZBo was 4-4 in 10 minutes for 12 points - now that's efficiency!
(15-14) Rochester Royal 23 29 24 22 - 98 (Spencer Haywood 23)
(17-11) New Orleans Jaz 24 35 28 34 - 121 (Paul George 25)
Jazz and Royals are two good teams in this league and the Jazz use home court and a big fourth quarter to put the game beyond doubt.
(11-17) Anaheim Amigos 27 19 27 17 - 90 (Pervis Ellison 17)
(15-13) Phoenix Suns 23 31 32 30 - 116 (Luol Deng 24)
I'm sure the Suns were lousy a little while ago but they're now 2 games above .500 and looking good. Is Luol Deng the best player to ever don the GB uniform? Yes, no arguements please. Good solid win over the Amigos who are wilting in the Sun and the league in general.
(13-15) Wilmington Bomb 29 30 25 25 - 109 (Bob Davies 22)
( 9-20) Indiana Pacers 25 22 34 24 - 105 (John Havlicek 22)
Bomber beat cross town rivals in Indiana (okay, big town) and cement their place at the top - hold on let me say that again - at the TOP of the ABA Kentucky division (Blue or whatever it's called these days). Seriously has someone let Kareem know that their ticket to the dance may not get stamped this year?? Before a couple of trades this season who could see the Bombers as a playoff team? Pleasant surprise of the league maybe... and even more so if they could get their record to over .500 - they edge closer with this impressive win on the road over the tricky Pacers who are still searching for a win streak (even of one apparently) after coming sharply down from their Rocket victory a couple of games back.
