UBAS Season 4 Day 151
The playoffs are close guys... you can always tell by when action starts in the sister league (UBAL) that things are heating up...
Injuries
John Wall 11 - playoff implications for the Hornets?
Nick Anderson 2
(32-46) Philadelphia Sp 17 27 20 28 - 92 (Dave Cowens 21)
(53-26) Akron Firestone 25 25 31 27 - 108 (Bob Feerick 22)
Firestones have the fourth seed locked up but they'd love to catch the Knicks and have home court too for their first round matchup.. Solid wins to keep the pressure on the Knicks as they pull level in the win column at least. Bob Freak continues to do his thing and rip the league...
(49-29) New Orleans Hor 23 20 30 18 - 91 (George Gervin 27)
(54-22) LA Lakers 29 24 27 26 - 106 (Bob Cousy 22)
Lakers just refuse to go on a late losing streak to let me Knicks move up in the rankings which I consider to be almost rude. The Hornets get a taste of what a likely first round matchup with the Lakers might look like - they also lose the services of John Wall in the process for the rest of the season and at least the first round of the playoffs. Lakers have a huge front line but Cousy is their leader (this year at least).
(43-36) Golden State Wa 31 28 17 32 - 108 (Bob Kurland 21)
(19-57) Wilkes-Barre Ba 17 34 28 19 - 98 (Sam Cassell 21)
Warriors are good enough to be in the playoffs but they won't be this year. Watch out playoff teams as they are going to use their last three games to mess with at least one of us.
(26-52) Texas Chaparral 35 31 39 22 - 127 (Dirk Nowitzki 34)
(30-49) Original Celtic 38 32 32 28 - 130 (Carmelo Anthony 36)
Celts and Chaps have a fiesty battle. Knicks have to play the Chaps one more time this year and they're a really unpredictable team and if Dirk and supporting cast gets hot they can be a real pain. Same can be said of the Celts - when Melo is firing (okay, he's always firing, but when it's on target I mean) they're dangerous and have just enough today to take down the Chaps in a hard fought game.
(35-44) Washington Gene 34 21 22 35 - 112 (Dominique Wilkins 27)
(29-48) Chicago Gears 34 36 23 25 - 118 (LeBron James 20)
Generals for me have been the most disappointing team of the season and I know it's been frustrating for Ty. Nique, Wade and Moses should have been able to get it done but chemistry issues seem to have held them back. Lebron is big in a league of stars, but he needs more help in future years to get it done.
(17-63) St Louis Spirit 24 31 37 34 - 126 (Allen Iverson 21)
(50-29) Anderson Packer 40 33 32 33 - 138 (Isiah Thomas 27)
Congratulations to the mighty Packers on reaching 50 wins!! Heavily criticised by most of the league for trading Wilt (not me, I hasten to add) and then criticised by just me for letting Adam have Cousy (but yes, Isiah is a great player too) yet here they are at 50 wins and that's a major achievement in these leagues. That total matches their team record of season 2 and easily eclipses the 43 of last year. Of course in the NBA conference that doesn't even get you home court in the first round - gonna be a tough matchup against the Bucks, Lakers, Sonics or Knicks depending on how the last few games go. I reckon Lakers to face Cousy :)
(46-31) New York Rens 26 20 27 19 - 92 (Bob McAdoo 23)
(54-23) New York Knicks 37 33 24 34 - 128 (Wilt Chamberlain 40)
The battle of New York #2 is at MSG and the Knicks came to play a little harder than their Brooklyn (oops I mean fellow New York) rivals. Chamberlain was criticised for being a bit off his game a few games back and seems to have responded pretty well with a couple of 40 UBA rating games like this one today where he tops all comers. Rudy T continues to be the most successful Knick not called Wilt and I wonder if we may have made 60 wins if I hadn't played with the roster mid-season!! Unfortunately for the Knicks the last 5 games will be very difficult with 2 (yes 2) away games against the Bucks and a season finale away against the Royals. Still if we win some of those games we'll be in good playoff mode. Today was a blowout win, but no complacency in the Knick camp.
(60-18) Milwaukee Bucks 32 24 31 38 - 125 (Sleepy Floyd 30)
(51-26) Scranton Miners 26 34 27 18 - 105 (Tim Hardaway 21)
Speaking of the awesome Bucks they rack up a huge milestone win and reach 60. They were the only team to hit 60 wins last year and there's a fair chance they'll be the only team to do it again unless the Lakers can win out all their games. Speaking of the Lakers their team has gone 62, 59, 58 and 54+ - that's literally stunning in these leagues but I know Adam would trade any of those years for a title (or even a finals appearance) - this could definitely be LA's year. They have certainly been the best regular season performer over the league history, but the Bucks have been the regular season kings over the last two seasons - will this be the year they go all the way? Let's not forget today's game against the ABA leaders Miners in Scranton - fourth quarter slaughter and Sleepy Floyd literally ripped through the Miners defensive that had held the game in check to that point. Miners will be okay though - they have a great shot at the ABA crown.
(37-42) Trenton Tigers 34 29 27 29 - 119 (Andrew Gaze 29)
(49-29) Minnesota Piper 38 40 29 21 - 128 (Hakeem Olajuwon 24)
Pipers have quietly had a very nice season and inch closer to that 50 game win mark. 50 wins in these leagues is usually the mark of a very good team and in the NBA conference you need 50 to make the playoffs. In the ABA 41 and a .500 record will probably get it done is Adam 'Silver' Russell planning on making some alterations next season? This one may be going to the vote!
