Last night I finally took the oath and became a fully fledged Kiwi. Put simply moved up in the world in rugby and down in cricket. I now get the honour of being able to have two passports and travel to Europe and Australasia without entering the long queues or buy visas… Australian’s watch out as I can also live and work in Oz now if I want to (I don’t… you’re safe).
Keith also stopped shooting up for a while and noted that every team with playoff aspirations is suffering losses at the moment except the Bucks and Knicks… Kiss of Death I proclaimed and let’s see if that’s true. (Re-reading this I apologise to Keith, I was not meaning to imply that he was actually a drug addict, merely that he was insane).

Nate Thurmond 5
(27-11) Anderson Packer 26 22 23 29 - 100 (Rick Barry 29)
(23-16) New York Rens 36 38 20 31 - 125 (Bob McAdoo 33)
Pack suffer at the hands of a Rens team looking to vent on someone after 4 shoddy games. In style they do it and stick it at Anderson from the get go. Man how much do the Pack miss Vince Carter - UBA stud. Bob McAdoo was player of the day and his full arrange of scoring was on display today. Arena shoots come what may and Grant Hill was so-so (great D poor O). Fortunately Chuck was a solid as ever with his double double.
(30- 8) Milwaukee Bucks 35 22 19 27 - 103 (Reggie Miller 24)
(13-25) Washington Gene 18 31 32 27 - 108 (Thomas Barlow 29)
KOD!!! I told you, jinxed Bucks ride in with swagger as the best team in the league but get no respect from the much-better-than-their-record-dictates Washington Generals. Thomas Barlow was not a member of Take That I understand but he was the top scorer in the game in a contest packed with stars like Miller, Nique, Russell etc etc.
(16-23) Original Celtic 25 17 31 36 - 109 (Carmelo Anthony 19)
(26-13) Chicago Crusade 32 31 26 36 - 125 (Charlie Scott 21)
The Crusaders get back on track with a comfy home win over the middle of the pack Celts. Chink popped in 21 to pace all scorers and Melo led the Celtics with 19 but it took him 16 shots to get his. Sabonis continued his stellar play in the league and Willie Wise did a bit of everything to help out. Keith’s Crusade continues on and he uses all 12 players today in the W - good to see not everyone believes in running short rosters to be successful - my two-penneth is that there’s a reason why you have 12 players suited up.
(18-20) Denver Rockets 23 23 24 18 - 88 (Michael Jordan 18)
(14-24) Philadelphia Sp 29 30 33 19 - 111 (Dave Cowens 19)
Bill isn’t happy with his Rockets right now and there lack-lustre play - again on display today as they get pummelled on the road in Philly. Jordan led the Rockets but something’s not right in Denver when you can only muster 88 points (need Kiki Bill?).
(19-20) Harlem Globetro 27 29 34 27 - 117 (Michael Finley 25)
(23-15) Hawaii Chiefs 32 32 26 18 - 108 (Bobby McDermott 29)
Father-son battles are always fun and the Chiefs have clearly been the better team in the first part of the season… But that doesn’t guarantee you wins in the UBAS and young Kik rides in on the hot-hand of Michael Finley and gives dad’s Chiefs a kicking! 18 point fourth quarter was the undoing for Hawaii. I said after the Rens-Globies trade that they were both playoff teams and suddenly Harlem is sitting in 8th spot in the ABA. Dwight Howard looked good today with a nice double-double before fouling out.
(15-22) Brooklyn Indian 32 29 41 17 - 119 (Kevin Durant 33)
(23-16) Memphis Sounds 29 36 19 24 - 108 (Chris Mullin 25)
True to mad-Keith’s word another top team struggles today and the Sounds of Memphis are beaten up on their home court thanks to a dismal 3rd quarter showing where Durantula scored 18 points and Memphis couldn’t find the rim. They’ve certainly benefitted from the trade that brought Mullin here and he continues to play great ball, but a deeper look shows that shooting was an issue for Memphis - particularly Kevin Love who had a double-double including 20 board but shot 3 of 18… yes 3.
(11-28) St Louis Spirit 25 34 37 28 - 124 (Otis Thorpe 24)
(14-23) Dayton Metropol 35 20 42 45 - 142 (Russell Westbrook 29)
Yes Westbrook can fill it up - a wing/small forward dressed up as a PG with a great ability to get to the hole. No defense played today in a nice pacy game - 87 second half points for Dayton is filling it up.
( 7-31) Kansas City Ste 23 26 40 19 - 108 (Brian Winters 20)
(23-16) New Orleans Hor 33 37 33 23 - 126 (Walt Bellamy 23)
No slip ups for one of the few surging teams in the league who are on a real-nice run right now (league best 7 game win streak has them looking good for playoffs right now). Bellamy was a great pickup and he’s tops today for New Orleans. Kansas are laying in wait for future seasons.
(25-14) Seattle Superso 29 22 34 30 - 115 (Nate Thurmond 22)
(13-25) Chicago Gears 15 28 28 16 - 87 (Sidney Wicks 16)
Another recently surging team is the Sonics of Seattle and they travel to the other Chicago team and put a beat-down on the Gears holding them to a paltry 87 points. When Nate Thurmond is your leading scorer (on a team with Larry and Harden) you know that defense has controlled the game.
