Return of the Mac! I know some of you missed my diatribe last week (really, anyone?) but a sudden failure on my beloved Macbook Air left me working off nothing more than a mobile phone and a borrowed laptop a couple of days later. Magically today I finally got my beloved silver streak of a machine back and in full working order!
In the mean time I did at least have Apple TV to enable me to watch the Lakers (literally) limp in and out of the playoffs and see a classic matchup between the Bulls and Nets which is surely one of the most thrilling playoff games I've seen in recent memory.

Carter is a beast in the UBAS this year (and for a few to come). Not hot shot today but a solid and efficient 29 is the reason the Braves win comfortably at home and keep the Sphas reeling. Double doubles for Paul, Griffin and ... Stokes with 17 boards was a big difference in the outcome.

(22-38) Texas Chaparral 33 45 31 45 - 154 (Derrick Rose 20)
The Chaps have had a fun season this year for sure sparked by a GM that didn't just try to hold on as the glory days expired. Bold moves may or may not pay off, but this is the way to roll the dice. Rose is a hot ticket and hopefully will be again next year in the NBA when he returns (please). The Spirits have been entertaining in bursts but generally don't play a lot of defense and are looking at another high draft pick this year.
(37-22) New York Rens 21 24 37 37 - 119 (Scott Fisher 25)
(30-29) San Diego Sails 30 36 27 16 - 109 (Jack Twyman 24)
The Rens know how to win on the road and again pick up a key win over the much improved (and yet maligned) Sails. San Diego was plain sailing until the 4th where a big 15 point lead evaporated instantly and capsized the home town team. Scott Fisher? Okay, whatever works! Harry Gallatin's 18/19 performance was the real difference. Anyone want to bet against New York right now? (not to mention the host of injuries)
(22-36) Boston Celtics 37 33 30 23 - 123 (Bob Lanier 23)
(28-31) Charlotte Bobca 15 13 32 22 - 82 (Oscar Robertson 17)
Boston are seriously more dangerous than their 22 wins so far suggest. Last year they over-performed and this year the other side of the coin. Charlotte in a push for the playoffs looked past them at home and got seriously beat up. 70 - 28 first half. Seriously that has to be some kind of record. Lanier's very efficient 23/12 led the way and Oscar just shook his head.
(35-23) New York Knicks 27 26 23 26 - 102 (Derrick Coleman 25)
(23-36) Sheboygan Redsk 16 23 24 33 - 96 (LeBron James 22)
The Knicks rebound from the loss of Rick Barry again for most of the remainder of the season by getting a good away win against Lebron James and some other guys by dominating the glass. The Redskins have a prime player in LBJ (and that may be an understatement) but haven't quite found the mix yet to get the most out of him, don't panic (or do) he has a long career ahead I suspect. DC has steadily done what has been asked of him in NY and today he squeaks into top shots at number 10.
(22-35) Chicago Crusade 29 25 39 27 - 120 (Jay Vincent 25)
(34-23) Anderson Packer 33 26 30 29 - 118 (Paul Pierce 31)
Heartbreaker in Anderson as the Crusaders literally steal the game. Pierce hits a contested mid-range shot with 2 ticks on the clock to virtually send the game to OT with the Anderson crowd going crazy but Jay Vincent who led the team with 25 was just the decoy for the buzzer play and Sabonis rolled off the pick to bank in a short range jumper as the horn expired. Replays followed but the ball clearly left his hands just before the red lights danced on the backboards and the Crusaders ran off the court victorious. Wilt was unimpressed with the refereeing after fouling out in just 36 minutes of a sub-par performance where Pierce carried the load.
(31-27) Scranton Miners 27 41 31 25 - 124 (Bobby Jones 22)
(22-36) Brooklyn Indian 27 29 39 27 - 122 (Kemba Walker 23)
Another buzzer beater? Not quite but similar scenario. Home team Brookly had this one tied up and headed to OT but a careless foul by Durant on Brad Daugherty sent the big fella to the line with 0.4 on the clock where he calmly iced both. Derek Fisher was in attendance on the sidelines and watched intensely as a baseline desperation play was run for Deron Williams. It wasn't close and the shot didn't leave his hands in time - Fisher may not be a UBAS quality guy, but he sure knew how to hit a shot in the clutch with next to nothing on the shot clock (don't even start me on Horry). Indians lose and Scranton steals the game on the road. Great game by Timmy.
(43-17) Cincinnati Roya 25 36 30 19 - 110 (Lou Hudson 23)
(22-36) Golden State Wa 19 24 25 20 - 88 (Bob Kurland 26)
The Warriors are not terribly good this year if you look at their record but you don't take a Kwame team lightly. Fortunately the Royals are a good team and they're coached to take nobody lightly. Solid away win and a good thumping in the process. Great game in the losing effort by Bob Kurland (good enough for number 2).
(14-45) Atlanta Hawks 35 23 31 27 - 116 (Hal Greer 30)
(33-27) Trenton Tigers 30 42 36 30 - 138 (George Glamack 34)
The Tigers have definitely improved on the first half of the season and playing the Hawks at home doesn't hurt either. Great game by a guy who was picked up off the free-agent list (after being dropped by a good team) in George Glamack who heads up the ratings today with 34 and 13.
