UBAS Season 3 Day Watsit (60 apparently)
I'm not 100 % sure I even know what day it is any more... the commish like his predecessor in the UBAL leagues the retired BBJ has clearly gone mad. Tuesdays games are now arriving well in to Weds (okay still just about technically Tue to you West coast yanks) after coming Monday the week before... but this is nothing compared to the strange links that the commish is sending out - how to work from home for $1,000s of dollars per day or the power of SEO...
The breaker for most of us though was the point we heard about a fantasy version of the WNBA. I actually truly believed for the first couple of seasons that it was a soap opera for sports fans or sports entertainment like the WWE (I think they should have stayed with WWF like when we growing up and changed the wild life acronym instead). I get the combination of fantasy and women, I really do and I know Tony and Jeff are great examples of guys who really get that, but fantasy WNBA? In New Zealand we're pretty big on netball (we, not me I hasten to add) but if it wasn't for the outfits it would be a bit dull. That's where the WNBA falls down I believe, rules like beach volleyball or even decent netball type outfits and you may be on to something. Instead of intimidation and offensive ratings we got have 'hotness' and 'easyness' as two key desirable characteristics and the simulation could be run on a slightly smaller computer to make sure it wasn't confused with the real game...
Of course I coach my daughter's basketball team so you can take all that with a grain of salt.
Injuries
Bob Davies 8
(18-12) Anderson Packer 43 32 25 24 - 124 (Wilt Chamberlain 35)
( 9-23) Texas Chaparral 34 31 38 28 - 131 (Derrick Rose 23)
Just when the Pack seemed to be back on tack (!) they run into a suddenly hot Chaps to knock them back. Rose if he can be healthy will be a damn fine point guard. Wilt is everything in Anderson but not quite enough against Tony's young pups.
(20-11) Philadelphia Sp 30 29 29 28 - 116 (David Thompson 23)
( 5-27) Wilkes-Barre Ba 26 23 22 34 - 105 (Toni Kukoc 23)
The Sphas are enjoying this season so far and sit pretty in the entertaining ABA with a highly respectable 20 wins after a solid away win over the not yet ready Barons. DT for 23 continues to aid with my rhyming tirade.
(13-19) Sheboygan Redsk 23 29 44 28 - 124 (LeBron James 40)
(18-13) New York Knicks 38 33 28 28 - 127 (Max Zaslofsky 26)
Yeah baby, the Knicks club together to take out the one-man attack from the self-proclaimed King. 40 today for the best player in the game today (right now) but not quite enough as the Knicks hold on in front of a sold out Garden to take down the 'Skins. Lebron good for number 2 on hotshots with Cousy number 5 and even Zaslofsky firing into top 10. Cooz was the real difference maker though with his top-rated defensive game and 6 steals and 2 blocks.
(15-17) Charlotte Bobca 21 25 32 29 - 107 (Pau Gasol 34)
(16-14) Indianapolis Ka 27 32 27 31 - 117 (Alex Groza 47)
Wait a second Lebron - where did that game come from? The tough Kautskys turn up the heat with a solid win because of Groza's mahusive game. 47 points and a 52 rating? Wow. The Bobcats are a tough team but Groza's game today just stunned them. Good game from Pau (could have used that in my wow line).
(24- 7) Akron Firestone 30 30 36 32 - 128 (George Mikan 25)
(21- 9) Hawaii Chiefs 33 34 35 34 - 136 (Bob Pettit 24)
Great win from the Chiefs of Hawaii as they battle the firepower of the tops in the NBA in Akron. Pettit v Mikan was a fun matchup but little Stevie Franchise was the difference maker hitting shots down the stretch and constantly in motion. Jeff will have to respond over this rousing victory... (suspect some half naked women to be posted in celebration)
(16-15) New Orleans Hor 31 25 21 30 - 107 (John Wall 18)
(16-16) Trenton Tigers 31 32 31 28 - 122 (Andrew Gaze 29)
Trenton and New Orleans are both hovering around that .500 mark and a solid win for Trenton puts them back there and draws NO closer. Gaze was locked in today.
(17-14) LA Stars 24 21 27 28 - 100 (Shaquille O'Neal 18)
(15-16) Carolina Cougar 36 31 34 28 - 129 (Kevin Love 24)
Jeff was right when he said Love was made for the UBA game, but he better get healthy soon in the NBA because he will sorely be missed if not... Good game today and a hotshot worthy number 6 in the victory as Carolina edges back to .500 and drags the Stars and their Diesel powered offense back that way a game.
(22-10) Cincinnati Roya 24 22 17 26 - 89 (Bailey Howell 20)
(24- 7) Milwaukee Bucks 23 19 31 25 - 98 (Amare Stoudemire 22)
The Royals rise up and challenge the alpha male in a real dog-fight... they have already stated this year they don't mind winning ugly, this time they played ugly with the Bucks but wound up second best. Still it was on the road and honestly there's not many teams who will push the Bucks this close in Milwaukee.
(11-21) Golden State Wa 24 30 33 40 - 127 (Adrian Dantley 18)
(16-15) Buffalo Braves 17 27 21 26 - 91 (John Drew 22)
Just when it looked like everything in Buffalo was getting back on track this happened. A thumping on their home floor against a team with just 10 wins coming in? 36 point blowout will not impress coach O'Donnell... are the Warriors finally starting to make some moves? This was a message that whilst they may still be wildly inconsistent you can't take them for granted in this league.
