Okay, how's your team tracking so far? Hands up who's over .500? .600? Teams over .700 at this point of the season are the elites if they continue this way... who are they? (do you all know the only one over .800 - I bet you do).
Today's Games: http://www.nba-sim.com/ubas/games.php?id=28&season=3
Injuries
Elton Brand 1 - Brand down will this cost Hawaii their next game on the road?
Josh Howard 4 - I'm surprised he's in the UBAS at all honestly...
Joe Fulks
( 3-11) St Louis Spirit 36 27 31 22 - 116 (Allen Iverson 33)
( 9- 6) Charlotte Bobca 35 25 37 32 - 129 (Oscar Robertson 24)
Man the Spirits have sucked in the early going of season 3. My old friend Tony Morris won't mind me telling it as it is - they seem disjointed and whilst an eclectic mix of players that can score can be fun they don't win many games (I know they're going to beat my Knicks now!). The Bobcats are much improved this year and a .600 record agrees with that.
( 8- 6) Anderson Packer 35 24 30 33 - 122 (Oscar Schmidt 29)
( 4-10) Oshkosh All Sta 29 30 20 25 - 104 (John Beckman 30)
Suddenly Wilt and his Packers are coming back at you! Winners of 5 straight and the Ali of the basketball world is leading the way - even in his watered down UBAS version, 4th in hotshots today. Oshkosh were no match even on their home floor.
( 3-12) Wilkes-Barre Ba 25 21 28 18 - 92 (Karl Malone 16)
(10- 4) Hawaii Chiefs 27 26 39 26 - 118 (Bob Pettit 38)
The much improved WBB still suck this year but they won't forever. I've been impressed with their fight so far this year but losing lots of games will wear you down after the initial burst. Bob Pettit plays a monster of a game with 38 today to go with 13 boards as he abuses Malone (who at least showed some fight) and the Barons front line. Easy win for the Chiefs who may struggle on the road without Brand next game.
( 8- 6) New York Knicks 32 29 27 22 - 110 (Bobby McDermott 25)
( 9- 6) Scranton Miners 34 20 33 33 - 120 (Bobby Jones 27)
Knicks continue to play win one (home) lose one (away) for the last 10 and today we're on the downward part of the cycle playing against a solid Miners team and the unbelievable shooting of Bobby Jones who was at it again today. Close game through three quarters and about 10 minutes tied at 100 before the Miners pulled away to the delight of the home crowd. Bobby Mc led the Knicks today but Jones lit it up for 9 of 11 and 9 of 10 from the line... (man I hate writing about my team losses even when you know you're on a down year). Miners at .600 and Knicks above .500 still for now at least...
( 7- 8) Trenton Tigers 24 37 25 23 - 109 (Andrew Gaze 28)
( 9- 6) Brooklyn Indian 24 37 25 37 - 123 (Kevin Durant 25)
Tigers dip below .500 as they let a close game blow open at the start of the fourth quarter and end up losing by 14 in Brooklyn. The Indians were led by smooth scoring machine Kevin Durant and his 25 and move up to a very sturdy .600 record.
( 6- 9) Golden State Wa 37 27 21 16 - 101 (Sidney Moncrief 25)
(11- 4) Akron Firestone 34 20 26 30 - 110 (Shawn Marion 22)
The Firestones are looking mighty impressive and are definitely one of the elite teams right now but they had their hands full with the visiting warriors who gave them all they could handle for 40 minutes before seemingly running out of steam. Squid was hot for 25 but the Firestones used a balance attack led by the Matrix and his 22.
( 6- 9) New Orleans Hor 22 25 25 23 - 95 (George Gervin 18)
( 7- 7) Harlem Globetro 25 17 28 33 - 103 (Dwight Howard 22)
The Globies had high hopes this year and they've pulled back to .500 despite a crappy start to the year. I reckon most of that is due to the underrated Hersey Hawkins who I really did not want to trade to Dan, but he literally cried on the phone to me for 4 days until I agreed to relinquish him (note I hold the right to extrapolate the truth somewhat in this blog). He is a glue guy and you need one to move up a level. Make no mistake though this team is built around Howard and rightfully so, today he was top 10 (a 20/20 game) and propel them to a good win over a solid Hornet outfit. Note again a fourth quarter surge that determined the game - subtle theme?
( 4-11) Atlanta Hawks 25 27 22 26 - 100 (Willis Reed 18)
(13- 2) Milwaukee Bucks 41 43 29 35 - 148 (Amare Stoudemire 41)
There's an entirely different theme here it's call domination. There's elite teams and then there's the Bucks. Surefire pick to top the NBA? Probably and today the abuse (and maybe that's not a strong enough word) the poor Hawks. Stud was amazing for 41 but Penny was the man of the match. It seemed like the Hawks had one less player on court all game - actually my game in the A grade felt like that tonight; mostly because the opposition only suited 4 up, but we still managed to make heavy going of it, can't say the same for the Bucks. If you didn't guess it 13 out of 15 is good for .87 and yes that is awesome Eddie.
( 9- 6) Buffalo Braves 33 31 25 38 - 127 (Vince Carter 25)
( 8- 7) Carolina Cougar 37 37 36 31 - 141 (Kevin Love 25)
Vince Carter and the Buffalo Braves were sitting over .600 and making a push for that elite status but the surprising Cougars continue to hang tough particularly at home and hold on for an entertaining high paced affair - 268 is a good point total by any two team's standards and the fans got their value as both teams shot just under 60% - defense? nah, not here...
