Three is the magic number. It's game three of the finals for the conferences, will Harlem or San Diego find themselves down a hole that's too deep for them? Will the games continue to go with home court or will they continue to fall for the top seeds?
Injuries
Alex English 1 (Team Suspension – physical conditioning) - seriously? Physical conditioning at this point of the playoffs? Harsh injury from HAL.
( 3- 0) HOUSTON 33 21 26 23 13 - 116 (Karl Malone 24)
( 0- 3) HARLEM 31 19 21 32 7 - 110 (Wilt Chamberlain 32)
OVERTIME we go in game one and Wilt and Malone continue to prove they're the best in the league. Houston let a double digit lead slide in the fourth quarter as Harlem finally found their offensive stroke. Wilt was so dominant in the fourth blocking shot after shot in the final two minutes and powering in the last 8 points. He went to the line with his RENs down one in the final seconds but was only able to make one of two so the game went to OT. Houston went dirty down the last few minutes employing the whip-a-dipper technique to send Wilt to the line, his only weakness. With every offence running through Wilt, Doc kept him in the game. He finished missing ten free throws on the game but the last couple of misses in OT and the fourth made the final difference and the Rockets stunned the Harlem faithful. Surely the RENs get game four?
( 3- 0) DALLAS 27 30 35 30 - 122 (Jerry West 25)
( 0- 3) SAN DIEGO 36 29 24 26 - 115 (Alex English 23)
No OT required in San Diego but in mirror fashion both games go the way of the top seed and the Qs are suddenly in a deep hole that looks to much for them to overcome. A great first half had the Qs cruising and up eleven before a mid court buzzer beater by West cut the half time deficit to 8 and gave Dallas all the momentum they needed to score 65 second half points and quickly erase the lead. Lenny Wilkins had a great double double and scored 23 to pace and match English, but curiously English just seemed to blow cover after cover late in the game at one point dropping to his knees after chasing West all over the court. In an unprecedented move coach Barnett suspended English from what could be his last game of the year due to his conditioning not being at the level required for a finals series. The Qs are already without the services of Clark Kellogg at the wing and will require a superhuman effort from Kobe Bean Bryant to force a game five and avoid the brooms. Dallas are a dangerous team when they are allowed to run and where is the defensive effort coming from in game four?
By tomorrow we could be ready for the Finals unless Wilt and Kobe find another gear to extend these series.
