I like the way that the recent downturn in results from my team has resulted in 'Poor Nige' comments from the writers, and reiterate from yesterday that the best trades aren't necessarily the ones you make for today.
I also think this is an unusual season, I think it's the year that we would have seen a shift in power if the regen rule hadn't come in; personally I think it's twisted the league slightly and created a new harvest crop for the old top teams rather than creating the parity it was originally designed to do. I don't mean it as a criticism and I think I've attempted to use it as much as anyone else, but it certainly favours the shrewd GM who knows the real value of players I guess. Regardless of the system you employ if you have 30 odd teams at this level there will always be the haves and the have nots; this is life isn't it? (Yes, I'm in profound mode tonight)
Injuries
Today's injuries include my two latest players in Curry and Wise, not to mention old Sandbag as well, rough night in Utah!
Ron Artest 8 (Hand Fracture)
Tyreke Evans 2 (Ankle Ligament Sprain)
Willie Wise 1 (Flu Like Symptoms)
Clyde Lovellette 9 (Wrist Fracture)
Stephen Curry 10 (Rib Broken)
Mike Woodson 1 (Elbow Hyperextension)
Don Buse 1 (Ankle Ligament Sprain)
(16-19) CAROLINA 20 27 35 27 - 109 (Ty Lawson 21)
(17-20) MIAMI 18 36 25 35 - 114 (Charlie Scott 23)
Miami is winning again and maybe Hakeem is all the reason! Carolina can't quite upset them on the road and settle for second best in this matchup between two very similar teams in record at least, will either make the playoffs? Good game to start the night.
(12-25) ANAHEIM 22 30 35 17 - 104 (Ron Artest 20)
(23-12) NEW ORLEANS 29 23 26 28 - 106 (Patrick Ewing 23)
Artest nearly pushes Anaheim to the upset over Ewing and the Jazz, but they just fall short in a dramatic finish. Ron Ron catches the ball with a second on the clock and drains his fourth consecutive triple.. But the review shows the ball on his finger tips at the buzzer and they wave off the basket and give the game to NO. On his way off the floor Artest punches the stanchion and breaks his hand. A shame for such a valiant effort; there again his heart has always been a mite bit stronger than his mind!
(14-21) VIRGINIA 21 26 24 23 - 94 (Jason Terry 21)
(14-22) SEATTLE 23 23 28 30 - 104 (Tony Parker 22)
Seattle has been winning of late mostly behind the play f Griffin and Parker. Tonight a ho hum game from BG but plenty of TP. Ginny can't wait for next season to exact revenge and get back in the hunt.
(26-11) SAN DIEGO 28 25 27 32 - 112 (Kobe Bryant 22)
(19-17) ORLANDO 28 24 21 29 - 102 (Roger Brown 23)
Qs aren't laying down yet folks and Kobe has publically stated this is his team. No arguments from the rest of San Diego and tonight he leads them to a solid away win over the Magic. One minute the Magic look like they're back on track.. Then they seem to be sliding back towards .500 ball. A mystery for Jim...
(24-11) OAKLAND 36 34 25 42 - 137 (Reggie Miller 30)
(10-27) LOS ANGELES 29 33 23 36 - 121 (Connie Hawkins 26)
Oakland keep pace with the Qs with their own away win over the struggling Lakers. The Hawk was shining brightly in his Tinseltown surroundings but LA needs more help to compete against tough teams like the Oaks. Tony has built his team around massive trees on the inside and sharp shooting on the outside; can't argue with the results again...
( 9-28) PHILADELPHIA 28 27 34 32 - 121 (Arvydas Sabonis 26)
(22-13) BALTIMORE 39 30 32 23 - 124 (Charles Barkley 31)
Baltimore keeps the others in site in the ABA but made awful hard work of lowly Philly. Great battle between Chuck (no.2 today) and Sabonis, but just enough in the supporting cast to ice the win for the Claws.
(15-20) UTAH 32 22 33 27 - 114 (Detlef Schrempf 32)
(22-15) KENTUCKY 30 20 33 38 - 121 (Dominique Wilkins 23)
It took a big fourth quarter effort from the Colonels to get it done against a Utah team filled with new faces. Coach Young looked happy with his team's effort and was particularly hyped by the play of young guard Steph Curry saying 'he's the real deal, with him, Shaq, Detlef, Bird, Oak, Carter we have a great nucleus for next year, and Rod is someone he can learn from for sure'. Today belonged to 'Tucky though in the end and 'Nique again has kept their season alive and perfectly compliments the big man Jabbar. Utah hospital ward was full after three injuries joined Laettner out of action.
(27- 8) CLEVELAND 27 28 24 22 - 101 (Julius Erving 24)
(26-11) BOSTON 18 23 25 36 - 102 (Dwyane Wade 24)
Game if the day today was fought in beantown as the mighty Cleveland rolled in to the toughest arena in basketball to face the defensive minded Celtics. The game followed the script, low scoring and grind out with the highly rated Cavs riding Dr J and his MVP line to a great away win until suddenly nobody knew how to stop Wade in the fourth quarter as he exploded for 20 on a variety of difficult drives to the hoop. At the other end of the floor Russell cemented his place as the best defensive player in the league time and again stopping the Cavs from putting the icing on the cake. Still the game came down to the last seconds as Russell blocked Penny's layup and found Jackson who threw the ball up for Wade to finish at the hole as the buzzer sounded and the garden erupted. I love this game!
(25-12) HARLEM 29 27 13 33 - 102 (Bob Boozer 25)
(12-23) NEW YORK 16 26 31 42 - 115 (EddieA Johnson 18)
I mentioned it last week but Eddie Johnson is having a mighty fine season in the Big Apple and today leads the home town team to a shock upset over mighty Harlem. Felix is on the block I hear and today he bests Wilt with a great defensive effort to go along with 18 points and 17 boards. Contenders will now be calling the trade hotline...
That's it from me this week folks..
