Congratulations to the US Olympic Basketball Squad - great to see a competitive final featuring some of the best players in the World; I can't see how anyone could complain at that (but I'm sure some will find a way). My last word on the Olympics was that some of you may have not caught the lone medal drugs cheat being caught Belarusian Nadzeya Ostapchuk has been stripped of her gold medal in the shot put. This is significant for New Zealand as our main hope was Valerie Adams who has now been given the Gold Medal. That gives the final tall in New Zealand as 6 gold medals. Not bad for a country of just over 4 million people (yes, there are still plenty more sheep).
Injuries today are dominated by the news that his Airness will be out for the next few weeks..
Michael Jordan 20 (Achilles Tendon Sprain)
Bob Boozer 1 (Finger Tendon Sprain)
Swen Nater 2 (Arm Ligament Sprain)

On to the games..
( 4- 5) WASHINGTON 34 16 27 31 - 108 (Otis Birdsong 31)
( 5- 4) NEW YORK 24 26 33 36 - 119 (Jim Paxson 22)
Washington and New York battled hard in the early opener. Otis Birdsong put on a scoring and MVP display for the visiting Generals as both team worked to move over .500, but unsung hero Jim Paxson and the plucky Knicks ruled the day. Coach Krieger was disappointed by his forwards all fouling out late and the 16 steals tallied were in vain. Good team effort for coach Mulford's boys, no double doubles but 10 players scored as they rallied around their fallen leader.
( 4- 5) DETROIT 21 31 22 25 - 99 (Roger Brown 19)
( 9- 1) HARLEM 33 31 34 31 - 129 (Dana Barros 21)
Is Harlem the Muhammad Ali of the UBAL this season? You think Wilt is beyond his peak, yet the self-proclaimed 'greatest' team still seems to be rolling over the league at this point with just one early upset against them. I'm not sure if the team is floating like a butterfly but they are scoring at will. Everyone on the scorebooks (yes all 24 players) and well over 50% shooting makes them damn near invincible on their own floor. Detroit never really stood a chance in this one, a 12-0 start to the second half put it out of reach.
( 6- 3) OAKLAND 26 37 16 29 - 108 (Reggie Miller 23)
( 7- 2) INDIANA 22 35 36 33 - 126 (Willie Wise 19)
Too hot teams face off as Indy host visiting Oakland and show them a fitting welcome behind Willie Wise and a team shooting clinic that even Reggie Miller from visiting Oaks applauded. Big Sven Nater gathered in 14 boards to go with his 12 points to negate visiting Superman Dwight Howard. Howard is very steady in the UBAL, will his real-life move to the Lakers change his UBA ratings in the future?
( 4- 5) SYRACUSE 36 29 38 35 - 138 (LeBron James 26)
( 0-10) ST. LOUIS 29 24 39 38 - 130 (Connie Hawkins 32)
Lebron's pretty good but unfortunately St Louis are very bad. 0-10 bad? Apparently so, the good news is Connie Hawkins and that their record can only improve (percentage wise at least), the bad news is they just can't seem to find a way to stop anyone right now.
( 4- 5) ROCHESTER 26 30 16 14 - 86 (Bob Netolicky 19)
( 8- 2) MEMPHIS 19 27 32 31 - 109 (Sarunas Marciulionis 21)
Is Memphis a fluke? 10 games in at 80% Matt Lazar says not. Another solid game and 4th quarter blitz with contributions all over the place (check out 13 rebounds for Tree Rollins and 8 of 12 for Sarunas for starters) and they hold Rochester to a measly 35% from the field.. soft schedule? I don't know but when the web-site goes up we'll get an idea (no dig).
( 4- 6) MIAMI 25 35 23 33 - 116 (Shaquille O'Neal 24)
( 3- 6) PHOENIX 33 29 29 28 - 119 (Steve Nash 25)
One-time team-mates Shaq and Nash go at each other but Nash and the Suns get the final say as the little Canadian dude drains a triple at the buzzer with Shaq resting for the OT that never came. Great open game, Sherman Douglas again going 20/10, Shaq and Miami dominating the Glass but somehow Phoenix hangs on and gets the W.
( 1- 9) LOS ANGELES 36 39 33 30 - 138 (Ray Allen 29)
( 3- 7) PHILADELPHIA 31 39 32 37 - 139 (Mark Aguirre 28)
These two aren't fighting for the UBAL championship (or even likely playoff contention) but check out this for an old fashioned UBA shoot-out! 139-138 in regulation. Ray Allen had his guns for hire and was firing away in the forth; his final shot would have given LA the away win had it not rolled off the rim as the buzzer expired. You don't lose many games shooting better than 60% but that's the story for LA today; they even shot 55% from downtown to see it go to waste. Duncan and Parish had matching double-doubles (impressive without many rebounds going around), but the offensive barrage from Mark Aguirre and Dolph Schayes was the difference in a fun game.
( 8- 1) CHICAGO 32 21 28 30 - 111 (Chet Walker 26)
( 5- 5) ANAHEIM 27 26 24 27 - 104 (David Thompson 22)
Chicago looks good early. There have been a few stand-out teams and Houston, Chicago and Harlem are making the NBA division a scary place to be right now if you want home-court advantage in the playoffs. Magic may be the best player in the league right now 16pts, 13 assists, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and a block is fairly average for Earvin. Anaheim puts up a good fight at home and DT fits nicely with some scoring punch and high-efficiency (7 of 8 today), but the day belong to Chicago behind a huge margin on rebounds (65-33). Beaty leads all rebounders today with 21 and super guard Havlicek grabs 12 to go with his 23 points and 7 assists.
( 8- 2) MINNESOTA 22 26 29 26 - 103 (Phil Smith 23)
( 2- 8) PITTSBURGH 15 30 27 22 - 94 (Jo Jo White 23)
Minnesota is another team that's started surprisingly well and again so no signs of letting up yet. Led today by 23 points and 9 rebounds from guard Phil Smith they go in to Pittsburgh and come out with a win over the plucky home side. Mel Daniels had a nice double double with twin 14s until you see that his 3-15 shooting may have cost coach Wright the possible upset. Strange as it may seem he wasn't alone, Donyell Marshall also matched this with 13 rebounds but 3-15 shooting! Maybe they were trying to help out Kenny Sears for Minny with his 14 points off an even worse 2-14 (if only he had one more shot)!
