Bruce Lee would have made one hell of a point guard. If nothing else I would like to see Kevin Garnett bully the little man ;)
Today's injuries:
Brad Davis 11 (Knee Cartilage Damage)
Al Cervi 4 (Foot Ligament Sprain)
Charles Barkley 1 (League Suspension – inappropriate language at press conference)
Caldwell Jones 2 (Back Spasms)
Scott Fisher 1 (Hamstring Muscle Tendon Sprain)
Clark Kellogg 1 (Patella Tendinitis)
Chuck was determined after the game to have his point of view heard...
(37-31) New Orleans Hor 17 29 16 32 - 94 (Mitch Richmond 22)
(44-27) Texas Chaparral 24 30 24 31 - 109 (Walt Bellamy 31)
Bells was a determined player and always gave plenty on the court. Today his (once again) feared Chaps keep the Hornets at arm's length for a relatively easy win on their home court.
(41-28) Seattle Superso 30 27 20 17 - 94 (Dave Bing 21)
(33-36) Charlotte Bobca 24 28 26 32 - 110 (Billy Knight 23)
Seattle is chasing the no.8 in the NBA conference but this setback at the hands of the Bobcats won't help. Charlotte is one of just 5 teams in the conference with a losing record and enjoy playing the thorn in the side of playoff hopefulls like the Sonics. Thing is that Garnett likes to intimidate guards - but today's guard for the Bobcats is Oscar Robertson and that's not your average 6'0 weakling by anyone's standard.
(30-40) St Louis Spirit 26 24 22 36 - 108 (Ed Wachter 26)
(16-53) Atlanta Hawks 30 29 17 28 - 104 (Dirk Nowitzki 21)
Spirits are a little disappointing to Mr Morris, but they still have enough in the tank away to take care of the struggling Hawks. Ed Watcher is a tough cookie for St Louis but Dirker and Wade have their time to come so the Hawks playing the watching and waiting game.. I could show some 'I'm tough Iverson' shots here but I think we saw enough of those the other day from Bill :)
(40-30) Boston Celtics 19 23 34 14 - 90 (Tom Gugliotta 17)
(38-31) Hawaii Chiefs 20 24 19 20 - 83 (Ray Williams 15)
Ouch for Jeff as his Chiefs get a taste of NBA style of play to grind out the win as the Celtics chase that elusive last playoff spot in the division. Is it fair that a 38-31 team will breeze into the playoffs when a 40-30 team has only a slim chance of making it? That's just the way it is in the West (I mean the NBA). It's time to show your determination and man-up and that's just what the Celts are trying to do. I want to see them make it just to get a Celtics - Lakers matchup in the first round. This was one ugly game with no player rating above 17 for the game and you can't even claim it was down to good defense. Truth is Boston just wanted it more, and that's exactly what determination is all about.
(35-34) Kansas City Ste 29 24 19 22 - 94 (Bob Dandridge 15)
(18-53) Carolina Cougar 20 29 27 26 - 102 (Benny Borgmann 24)
Nice win for Carolina over a team that should have wanted it more. Guys playoffs are rapidly approaching and the runs need to be in the other direction, particularly against weaker teams. It's all about determination..
(22-48) Washington Gene 25 30 29 32 - 116 (Dominique Wilkins 23)
(45-24) Anderson Packer 35 22 33 34 - 124 (Wilt Chamberlain 24)
I've noticed I always get Wilt's games. I like this version of Wilt more than UBAL or others because I think it's a true balance and how he would get on. He's still Wilt but he's playing against real stars in their prime and still finding a way to succeed. The pack move on against a fiesty General's team led by the Human Highlight Film. Thing was that 'Nique was more than just a flashy finisher but against Wilt.. no contest in the end..
(36-33) Chicago Crusade 19 27 28 22 - 96 (Chris Mullin 17)
(35-37) New York Rens 22 20 31 27 - 100 (Al Green 23)
Tough fought game for the other NY team and one they come through with a solid win over a tough Crusader outfit. Mullin is the ultimate gym rat but his Chicago team today couldn't quite get past Al Green and the Rens. Chuck was big for the Rens but his outburst afterwards in the post-game interview cost him the next game and that maybe real expensive for the Rens.
(32-39) Oshkosh All Sta 26 29 23 28 - 106 (Mark Davis 25)
(19-51) Wilkes-Barre Ba 31 23 30 20 - 104 (Karl Malone 22)
Could the game of the day contain the Barons? Today, yes as Karl Malone (fake tough if ever there was) nearly get the job done against the enigmatic Oshkosh and Aussie star Mark Davis. 9 lead changes - 8 in the second half - as a mean-nothing game turned in to a battle of pride! Beckman was the unlikely difference maker in the fourth quarter with 10 minutes of action and a whopping 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting.
(23-47) Denver Rockets 27 22 15 32 - 96 (Kiki Vandeweghe 19)
(49-20) New York Knicks 37 27 45 34 - 143 (Bob Cousy 32)
My Knicks are a pretty good team, not the best in the UBAS by a few notches, but when they're motivated they're ably to put a beat down on some teams. Today the Rockets ran in to a motivated and mean Knicks team that simply wouldn't let up. Knicks success this year has hinged around their tough point guard and underrated big-man and today was no differnt as they take the 1-2 spots for player of the day. Cousy notched day-highs in points and 42.3 rating overall as he dominated the PG spot. Gilmore had the top defensive spot of the day too. The Rockets can't wait for the return of MJ to swing things around next year.
That's all folks.. back next week :)
