In case anyone noticed I was away for a week or so! Having a lazy break in Rarotonga - for those of you who don't know it's a tropical island in the South Pacific (about 4 hours by plane from New Zealand and part of the Cook Islands).

(28-36) St Louis Spirit 29 37 26 23 - 115 (Tiny Archibald 22)
(32-31) Chicago Gears 28 39 27 25 - 119 (Amare Stoudemire 34)
Gears really need this one to compete in the NBA conference and get back above .500. Currently the 8th spot belongs to the Oshkosh All-Stars and their 34-30 record.. there's a few around that .500 mark so it's not decided yet. Remember how hot the Spirits were to start the year? They've been fairly average since and are on the outside looking in of the ABA picture.(37-26) Memphis Sounds 12 21 21 46 - 100 (Kevin Love 19)
(44-20) Seattle Superso 29 25 30 35 - 119 (James Harden 23)
The Sonics have really put together a great team and are having a very impressive season in Seattle. Much as I'd like to report that the Sounds rode in (also having a great year) and caused the upset, the truth is that they didn't and Harden, Bird and co come away with the win. This game featured Kevin Love and Rajon Rondo on opposing sides - will they be on the same side next season? Crazy rumours about them in La La land but time will tell on that one.
(23-40) Trenton Tigers 47 30 30 22 - 129 (Pete Maravich 30)
(20-42) Brooklyn Indian 37 29 29 27 - 122 (Dominique Wilkins 26)
Pete Mavarich and Nique both know how to hit shots and today was a fun battle between two teams that aren't heading to the playoffs this year. Maravich was the greatest scorer ever in NCAA history - they reckon had the three point line existed then he would have averaged over 50 a game - just imagine that. How many of you were pulling for the Badgers I wonder in the NCAA final? Everyone loves an underdog (if a number one seed can be that) but more than that I like to see a good hard game where the best team wins - seems Duke are worthy of that but what to I know - I was mostly here...
(33-31) Washington Gene 39 25 31 28 - 123 (Moses Malone 26)
(14-49) Dayton Metropol 36 16 25 30 - 107 (Kobe Bryant 28)
Kobe is rapidly coming to realise he is not on a great team (both in the NBA and the UBAS) - doesn't stop him getting his though.. problem is that the Generals are a much better team and they take the comfy away win behind Eminem (no, not that one). Dayton's paid a very steep price for Kobe in Larry Bird... Sonics don't make many trades but if everyone they make is like this we're all in trouble...
(30-34) Denver Rockets 16 27 36 29 - 108 (Kareem AbdulJabbar 16)
(32-33) Charlotte Bobca 31 40 28 24 - 123 (Oscar Schmidt 25)
Denver and Charlotte are both in the hunt in the ABA for a playoff spot... Charlotte edged closer to .500 thanks to their Oscars (no, the other ones). The 8th spot in the NBA is currently held by Oshkosh as stated above and the ABA is held by the afore mentioned Generals and they're sitting a couple of games over .500 so it's going to be a hard push for either of these teams... Charlotte still have a good shot if they can rack up wins...
(35-27) Flint Tropics 28 30 32 28 - 118 (Karl Malone 19)
(22-44) Original Celtic 33 23 39 39 - 134 (Jason Kidd 27)
Tropics are awesome, then poor, then very good and now? Hard to get a fix on this team as they seem to be really up and down. Today they fly in to the OC and come up way short in a game they probably counted as a sure thing. They have Karl Malone in Flint so you know the long term prospects are pretty rosy, but today belonged to Jason Kidd (huge 46.6 rating to lead all players) and the Celts who notch their 22nd win of the season.
(42-21) LA Stars 29 35 31 21 - 116 (Shaquille O'Neal 34)
(27-37) Anderson Packer 22 34 30 25 - 111 (Brook Lopez 18)
Stars are another team who've had a great season so far and have been at or around the top of the ABA since the start. Shaq was dominant tonight and proves he is a little (okay, a lot) too much for Brook Lopez (who did manage 18 and 12 in the defeat).
(24-39) Harlem Globetro 27 45 26 31 - 129 (Dana Barros 24)
(29-35) Chicago Crusade 25 40 31 38 - 134 (Richard Jefferson 29)
Jefferson scores again in good win for the Crusaders over fellow strugglers the Globies - the problem is that the Crusaders have been on a nine game losing streak before this taking them right out of the playoff picture at just the wrong time - seriously if they'd gone .500 during that stretch they'd be looking at being in the playoffs - it can change again but at the business end of the season it'll need to be without the loss rate of the last few games. Credit this win to Sabonis - they'll need him to stay healthy through to the end of the season to get in the dance.
(29-35) Golden State Wa 30 33 35 12 - 110 (Leroy Edwards 23)
(37-28) New York Rens 25 25 35 40 - 125 (John Wall 34)
This is the PG that Stan is hoping for in John Wall - a dominating performance good enough for number two on hotshots as he pours in an ultra-efficient 34 points and 12 assists (as well as 6 boards and 4 steals). NY seem to be coasting now and look playoff ready - but they'll have some hard teams to get through in the ABA this year to represent again....
Cheers :)
