To be honest I'm fairly miffed off writing this blog today. I can't remember the last time the Knicks had a three game slide in the wrong direction so I'm not too chuffed about it today... good news probably for most teams in the league that still care, but bad for me...
Worse still Knicks have had some fairly futile trade talks with everyone either not wanting to engage in talks or not bothering (or wanting Jerry West - he's not going until Jim trades me Magic - hey Jim it would be cool to have BOTH Magic and West in the backcourt though eh?) but everyone else has their price.
Anyways, frustrations to one side, I'm going to write a 'red mist' report today similar to the one I had at the end of an A Grade mens basketball league game on Monday night where we faced off against the other top of the table team. Great game back and forth but they play daft-ass running clock even in the fourth so we were trailing by 2 and they had the ball with about 10 seconds on the clock. I was looking for a quick hack or steal and fortunately missed the guy's arms and hit the ball loose and was able to come up with a steal and break away; they fouled me (no clear path rule unfortunately) but the ball bobbled loose. With over 8 seconds on the clock we never got the inbound in and lost by 2... well, actually four due to my reflective thoughts on the subject to the referee...
Injuries?
Bill Walton 9 - ouchie, big Red down again
Buddy Jeannette 15 - and this is bad news for the Steers with their best man down for a long stretch.
(24-22) Charlotte Bobca 24 24 15 31 - 94 (Oscar Schmidt 29)
(31-14) Baltimore Bulle 32 26 24 21 - 103 (Bob Lanier 25)
Crap - really needed the Bobcats to have an Oscar night like Birdman but not to be as the Bullets took them down and pulled up level with the Knicks on losses (if you haven't already guessed Knick loss coming).
(18-27) Harlem Globetro 22 40 30 28 - 120 (Michael Finley 18)
(22-25) Oshkosh All Sta 38 39 30 30 - 137 (Gary Payton 30)
I love Gary Payton - I'd give half my roster for Gary (yeah, probably not the best half) - Stu let me know if you want to trade him... Harlem's season of discontent continues as they are man-handled by Oshkosh.
(30-16) Hawaii Chiefs 39 28 30 29 - 126 (Bob Pettit 32)
(17-29) Trenton Tigers 40 17 32 33 - 122 (Elgin Baylor 27)
Chief's power back to within a half game of the Stars thanks to their main-man and top notcher Bob Pettit. Love to see Elgin Baylor and he's another guy I've tried soooo many times to get Trenton to give up. Jim give me a buzz I'm sure we can work something out before Baylor loses his shine?
(30-17) Scranton Miners 22 35 20 40 - 117 (Jerry Lucas 23)
(23-22) Flint Tropics 32 34 19 28 - 113 (Demarcus Cousins 26)
Remember when the Tropics were the number one team in the league? Seems a while back now, they're still a tough out but Scranton is a class outfit and a big fourth quarter stuns the resident Mega-Bowl trophy holders and edges them closer to .500 ball.
(20-26) Golden State Wa 14 27 28 23 - 92 (Blake Griffin 14)
(20-27) Texas Chaparral 22 21 35 23 - 101 (Bill Sharman 22)
I don't see Blake Griffin as a fit in the Warriors outfit and think Kwame will trade him before the deadline probably... Meanwhile in Texas they get a good win courtesy of Sharman - always the new boys...
(29-16) Seattle Superso 38 26 28 27 - 119 (Kevin Garnett 26)
(33-14) LA Lakers 36 32 25 28 - 121 (Tim Duncan 31)
Marquee matchup of two of the league's best who also happen to be in the same division. This is a win-win or a lose-lose matchup for the rest of us and the two teams didn't disappoint. Close game throughout and the main billing of KG v TD didn't fail to disappoint - although quietly David Robinson stole the show and the game for the Lakers. Expect both of these teams to be in the hunt - one of them will likely be a first round matchup for a top 4 team - that's scary.
(28-19) Milwaukee Bucks 24 37 45 28 - 134 (Ray Allen 34)
(33-14) New York Knicks 30 25 25 39 - 119 (Jerry West 30)
Okay okay, I take it back Eddie, I don't want to take on the Bucks in the first (or any particularly) round of the playoffs. Three straight losses for the Knicks all at the hands of the Bucks who seem to have our number this season. Second and third quarters were brutal for the Knicks but the side show of Ray Allen v Jerry West was fun and both end up with 30. Knicks brought Isiah back to the starting 5 but it hardly mattered as the Knick defense was vapid at best and the Bucks ran away with it... Knicks now in a tie for league-best record with the Lakers and lost some mojo in the process... another lineup shakeup due... oh yeah, small font's on purpose dudes...
(29-18) Cincinnati Roya 17 40 26 32 - 115 (Connie Hawkins 29)
(21-26) Philadelphia Sp 22 41 20 30 - 113 (Terry Cummings 25)
So Royal join the anti-Knicks day with a close fought road win of the Sphas that brings them closer and keeps them ahead of the surging Bucks. Hawkins gets the point and Magic gets the rest, but the game winner belongs to Biedrins?? Win's a win eh? Heartbreaker for Philly.
(10-37) Kansas City Ste 25 34 21 25 - 105 (Buddy Jeannette 27)
(16-30) Atlanta Hawks 24 35 34 23 - 116 (Gus Williams 19)
Atlanta takes down the Steers and the Kansas City outfit also lose top man Buddy Jeannette for a string of games - lots of balls for the lottery looking like the only consolation for the Steers...
