For those following closely yes, we’re underway in season 5 and already after today’s games some teams are 2-0, some are 0-2 and the rest… well, you get the picture. As one scribe put it, it’s sometimes quite difficult to write this stuff when there’s not so much going on. Although I do note that King James has taken his royalty somewhat for granted when with the Middletons - made me chuckle at least; mostly at the outrage of those who thought strongly on it one way or another. The Royal Family does have some outdated traditions when we forget they are still human (as indeed are our overpaid and overhyped athletes of course).
Injuries
Higher list of injuries today than the first couple with some notable names on the list. Leroy drops the longest but Webber may hurt the most and Mutombo and LA are no slouches either.

Unfortunately the Royals consolidate their great first game with an a solid home win over the yet to fire Rockets. MJ clearly frustrated in the early season with his team-mates… I’ve always liked Hawkins (both Connie and Hersey) and when you’re on a team with Magic it really helps. Royals will be in the top two of their division this year :)

Mildly better from the self-proclaimed favourites for the UBAS5 title. Like Jeff and his Chiefs we didn’t get much love in the prediction stakes from others but we’re playing for the big prize this year and will have a fun battle with Cincy for that coveted number one spot in the division. Hawks are likely to struggle a bit this year and an 0-2 start won’t be that much of a surprise to them. Yes Wilt is in NY, his name is likely to appear here and there through the year - though only 4th best today as he’s warming up on the season.

Fort Wayne get off the starting blocks with a really good away win over previously undefeated Indians. Indians lose top scorer LA in the process too. Dantley has recently been placed on the blocks by the Pistons and he’s a great scorer (originally drafted by yours truly) and underrated player so expect him to be on the move again (you’re welcome Rob). Pistons almost let this slip letting a double-digit lead evaporate but Kareem with two of his 7 blocks coming in the last two minutes to preserve the narrow margin of victory. Kareem was number two in the hotshots list today - if he can keep that up all season the Pistons will have much more fun this year.

Trenton get off the mark with a thorough bashing of the Metro-men. If you haven’t seen Megamind you probably should, one of the best kids movies of the last 5 years and a real Toy Story multi-layered movie - the relevance? Oh Metroman is one of the main characters.. yes, that’s about it. Dale Ellis got hot today and that’s a great sign for the Tigers - World B Free is a fun ticket, but he may not equate to many wins for his fellow metropolitans.

Unfortunately the reigning UBAS champion Los Angeles Lakers get a nice away win over the yet to get going New Orleans Hornets. Chris Webber was their main man today, but falls over at the end and costs the Hornets three games in the process - though not necessarily three losses of course! Lakers are going to contend every single season as they have the twin towers of Robinson and Duncan - not to mention some of the best point guard play in the league - Bob Cousy is the backup! In case you were wondering who he is the backup too look no further than today’s POTD Fat Lever - he’s going to be real good this year.

The greedy Crusaders and Sphas want to have 3 games early so we let them. The Crusaders wanted to be the first team to three wins but Philly wanted to avoid being the first team to have three losses more and were able to do just enough to maintain their double digit lead throughout the fourth. Cowers was nice but Stan Patrick’s 14 trips to the line (making 12) was the difference.
