It's rolled around to Tuesday again (in NZ at least) so you end up with more of my diatribe like it or not :)
I don't know if you've noticed but the league is really starting to take shape - a couple of early anomalies seem to have sorted themselves out and we can clearly see the strong contenders right now I think. As always the low seedings and near misses will be the hard ones to predict.
Injuries - plenty today I'm afraid... fortunately most for but a game...
Pervis Ellison 6
Campy Russell 1
Mark Aguirre 1
Jason Kidd 7 - clever move by the Wiz sending out a player about to go down for a week of games!
Zaid Abdul Aziz 1 - seriously triple Zs in a name is bazzzaar...
I'm in a slightly funny mood tonight so we're going to writeup a bit differently - hope you don't mind..
Make sure you scroll down and read closely 'cos it's kinda hard to see what the hell's going on....

1. Dwyane Wade -- BOS 23 SDQ 42.1 5
10. Ray Williams -- SDQ 23 BOS 28.0 1
Dwayne Wade would not be stopped tonight and was in scintillating form with 39 points on just 20 shots (he made 15 of them and 9 of 10 freebies). No Kobe for the opposing Qs so you figure that ought to do it right? Wrong. Total team effort by San Diego and Ray Williams chips in 29 with his best Kobe like emulation. A massive 3rd quarter lead of 22 points suddenly didn't look like it would be enough as Wade started burning up the court, but the home town Qs hang on and get back to .500 ball. Both Qs and Celts figure to be around in the post-season, but they both need to improve to book it in.
( 5- 7) Boston Celtics 33 29 22 41 - 125 (Dwyane Wade 39)
( 6- 6) San Diego Qs 31 39 39 25 - 134 (Ray Williams 29)
2. Carmelo Anthony -- CAR 23 ANA 41.7 5
9. Glenn Robinson -- ANA 23 CAR 29.3 1
Just like Wade before him 'Melo is a scoring machine, but today he faces Anaheim who know how to score themselves. Anthony was firing away for 35 big points and his clutch scoring down the stretch held the Amigos at arm's length as Caroline pulled away for the win and levelled back to .500 ball themselves. Glenn Robinson brought his big-dog game with 30 points of his own, but the rebounds and game belong to the Cougars, spearheaded by Moses and his 17 (to go with 17 points).
( 3- 9) Anaheim Amigos 36 19 30 28 - 113 (Glenn Robinson 30)
( 6- 6) Carolina Cougar 27 31 31 35 - 124 (Carmelo Anthony 35)
3. Connie Hawkins -- DEN 23 PHO 35.6 4
I'm a huge fan of the Connie Hawkins and he's stroking it again in season 11. Today his 24 led all scorers but it was the catching fire of Carl Braun late in the game that pushed the Suns out of the reach of Connie and his Hawks. Neither team is looking like playoffs are an option right now, but the Commish led Phoenix suns look more competitive with the trade that brought them Jason Kidd. Unfortunately Kidd goes down for 7 games today which will test the depth of the Suns - perhaps we'll see more Jrue? The Phoenix squad reminds me of a coach Scottie Morris team with lots of current and young players on it... good to see that the lone old boy Braun brings it though!
( 4- 8) Denver Nuggets 26 33 32 24 - 115 (Connie Hawkins 24)
( 3- 9) Phoenix Suns 27 37 32 36 - 132 (Carl Braun 20)
4. Karl Malone -- HOU 23 OKC 33.6 4
6. Kenny Sears -- HOU 23 OKC 32.3 3
8. Chris Paul -- HOU 23 OKC 29.7 2
If you like cheering for the underdog I suggest you look away right now. This was brutal to the Nth degree (hey that's the name of my 'other' blog!) as Houston obliterated OKC with a relentless display of power. Yes Karl Malone was a beast with a big double-double. Yes Kenny Sears stepped up and scored 30 points in 34 minutes, yes Chris Paul shredded the Thunder guards but don't forget Robinson dominated the paint with Rodman and... oh it was nasty. 48 points nasty and no let-up from the champs as they send a message to the pretenders. Z scored 16 if that counts?
( 5- 7) Oklahoma City T 33 10 20 25 - 88 (Zydrunas Ilgauskas 16)
( 9- 3) Houston Rockets 39 30 32 35 - 136 (Karl Malone 36)
5. Chet Walker -- CHI 23 OAK 33.2 3
Chet The Jet was running hard against Oakland with a typically quick 30 points to lead all scorers. Battle of the Tony's with two polar opposite coaches, Morris who more or less won't trade and builds long and slow (he did trade Lebron once though I seem to recall) and Coach Hyde who would literally trade his grandmother if he thought he'd get a good deal for her :) Today the steady Morris and his Oaks of Oakland come up with the win. Al Horford tops the Oaks scoring with 24 as the Oaks try and keep up in the ultra competitive ABA Mid-West.
( 2-10) Chicago Bulls 42 22 24 28 - 116 (Chet Walker 30)
( 7- 5) Oakland Oaks 34 28 25 44 - 131 (Al Horford 26)
7. Andrew Bynum -- DET 23 MIA 29.9 2
'Drew is playing this year! Well that's true in the UBAL at least (I hear he plans on 82 games with Cleveland - that could be the best free-agent pick up of the year in the NBA if he can). Today he plays picture perfect offense with 30 points on just 16 shots (13 makes). Andrew Bynum is the opposite of Dwight Howard, nice offensive game based around his skills rather than athleticism but both have been criticized for their attitude on and off the court. Good job Bynum and Pierce don't play on the same team in the NBA - they'd be fighting over that parking space! Deeetroit are looking pretty good so far this year and hold on for a very tough win by just 3 over the Flo-Ridas in sunny Miami. Ginobili had a chance to tie late in the fourth but shot a curious 3 early in the shot clock and the Pistons hold on for the win... something isn't clicking right in Miami and Hakeem just doesn't look happy :(
( 7- 5) Detroit Pistons 18 23 39 19 - 99 (Andrew Bynum 30)
( 4- 8) Miami Floridian 23 26 23 24 - 96 (Emeka Okafor 21)

Three top 10 defensive efforts today by the unheralded Carbondale Aces but was it enough to get them the win over the *quietly* best team in the league Orlando Magic? At home maybe, but unfortunately on the road they succeeded only in making a close game of it. Ultimately Gilbert Arenas shot enough to lead the home-town Magic to win 10 (with only 2 losses). The Rockets know they're going to need all their swagger against Orlando to win it all again.

Games without Individual Performances:
( 9- 3) New Orleans Jaz 30 36 31 26 - 123 (WorldB Free 18)
( 5- 7) New Jersey Amer 30 31 20 14 - 95 (David Lee 16)
Yes sometimes you can play a whole basketball game without any stand-out individual performances (not in the modern day NBA of course!). Today the closest the Jazz came to such was the scoring prowess of World (18 in 24 mins) as all 12 players on the Jazz play at least 10 minutes and all score at least 4 points. That's what team-ball is all about and why the Jazz are humming along at 9-3 and are able to easily push past the Americans of Jersey today. Jazz, Rockets, Magic, Colonels - fun in the NBA :)
( 4- 8) Portland Trailb 22 23 33 32 - 110 (Sam Jones 16)
( 8- 4) Philadelphia 76 38 30 26 32 - 126 (Mark Aguirre 21)
Last up today is the only team to score 76 in the first quarter in any game this year and they've done it in every one so far! Great work by Philly who have the unfair advantage of playing an extra quarter it seems ;) Like the Jazz it's a team effort from the 76ers and the reality is similar to my silliness above as a dominant first quarter and 16 point lead was where the game ended for the TBs. Like I say, fun in the NBA :)
That's it.. for those that like the traditional view I've stuck it below to keep you happy along with all the box-scores and don't worry I won't do it this crazy way again as it took twice as long for half the result.. but hey.. why not?
Day blah-de blah and here we go again...
