UBAS season 3 day 4

Just about to fly out to Melbourne and may even catch up with the commish there! In the mean time nothing stops the progress of the show and today some teams remain winless, some unbeaten and... Well... You get the idea!

Whilst I've got you here (and appreciate some of you have already scrolled down to the results) I ought to reiterate that the UBAS is the premiere league in all of sim basketball (and maybe sim sports).  A place where the Lakers are actually a powerhouse, where Wilt is Wilt without it being silly and where GMs actually have to research and study the game to be successful... oh and as always a bit of luck really helps (I ran the league through several sims and once, just once, Rick Barry played over 70 games... please please)!

Anyways... on to the games!

Injuries
Every game I look here and there's no Rick Barry is a good day for NYK

( 0- 2) Boston Celtics 20 30 28 32 - 110 (Mickey Johnson 16)
( 1- 1) Buffalo Braves 40 30 35 23 - 128 (Vince Carter 33)
Buffalo makes its anticipated winning start a game late but is happy to get the season started. Vince Carter is going to have a very good year and he and Mo Stokes both share a spot on hotshots today with Stokes getting MVP honours behind a 25p 15r 8a effort! Good contributions across the board. Maligned after a disappointing debut Griffin was limited to just six minutes of action, although he made the most of it with 8 points on 80% shooting and can impact the league with his offensive spark. The Celtics look sluggish at the start of season 3 after a really good campaign last year, the only highlight today was Stockton's 11 assists in just 24 minutes.

( 1- 1) Denver Rockets 22 35 21 26 - 104 (Michael Jordan 22)
( 1- 1) Kansas City Ste 28 32 22 26 - 108 (Calvin Natt 28)
KC and Denver reach parity in a hard fought contest; Jordan is back and loving it with a quick fire 22 in 30 minutes on court, Rubio comes back down to earth with 7 assists in his 36 minutes but still plays okay, Kiki will score, Ming is solid in the middle in a good road performance that just wasn't quite good enough.  Calvin Natt is a good wing-man and top scored in the game today with an efficient 28 on 10 for 16 shooting but the reason for the win can be chalked up to the big E.  19 points, 17 boards, 2 blocks and 3 steals was a fairly routine but dominant performance that really there was no answer to from the Rockets.  New boy Issel played big minutes and rewarded Coach Elwood with a 20 and 7 performance - not bad as he's a few years off his best still.

( 1- 1) St Louis Spirit 31 25 26 21 - 103 (Mark Aguirre 22)
( 1- 1) San Diego Sails 42 40 24 22 - 128 (Al Jefferson 23)
The Spirits come back down to earth with a thud after their point fest of a layup drill in their first game of the season.  Iverson misfired his way to 18 with just 3 assists whilst backup Kyrie scored 20 and 4 dimes in a much more efficient 30 minutes (lineup changes Tony?) but the real problem for the Spirits a hapless and hopeless 33 boards total.  The Sails hammered the glass to the tune of 59 boards for a MASSIVE 26 differential (roughly the same as the point differential coincidentally).  Jefferson had 23 and 13 and Hakeem was kept to just 12 minutes (with 12 points of course).  This is the Sails we expected to see in game 1 - hard to judge on a blowout win, but expect more high rebounding, high assists games like this if they are going to dominate the ABA as predicted by some...

( 1- 1) Indianapolis Ka 27 33 28 26 - 114 (Brandon Roy 21)
( 2- 0) Philadelphia Sp 29 39 31 24 - 123 (David Thompson 29)
The Sphas get a solid home win and remain unbeaten in season 3 dropping the tough Kautskys in Philly.  Exciting Brandon Roy pre-knee troubles will give Indy a shot this year combined with the legend Larry Bird, but both didn't quite have their stroke on today and Russell Westbrook carried much of the load with his 21 off an efficient 8 for 12 and Groza ran the show well enough.  Problem was DT simply couldn't be stopped and Jerry Lucas owned the inside all night pacing Philly with 16 and 13.  On the block TC stepped up with 18/3/5 showing why he is a great all-round and glue guy on the team.  Loss for Philly as Tarzan falls from the vine after 19 minutes today...

( 0- 2) Original Celtic 30 16 26 33 - 105 (Maurice Lucas 22)
( 1- 1) Oshkosh All Sta 23 28 29 30 - 110 (Mark Davis 22)
The second Celtics team still searching for a win in 2013 are the Originals.  Today they pushed Oshkosh close away as they both battled to get on the board.  Mo Lucas was great in a losing effort with 22/15/5 and Melo matched with 22 of his own but big Mark Davis 22/14 and Mikan 19/14 more than countered the Celtics bigs and a balanced scoring attack helped the home faithful down the stretch to hold off the Celts.

( 2- 0) New York Knicks 28 30 30 23 - 111 (Hersey Hawkins 23)
( 0- 2) Harlem Globetro 17 32 29 32 - 110 (Joe Fulks 29)
Buzzer beating 1 point win for the unheralded reigning champs on the road against the playoff expectant Globies!  Dan will not like this one at all... a possible deal involving Hawkins and the Globies never quite panned out in the preseason and he taunted his would-be suitors with a routing 21 point performance before draining an 18 footer at the buzzer over the outstretched hand of Chuck Chucky to seal the deal.  Howard did his usual double double down low with 17 and 13 but Joe Fulks was the focus with 29 and 11 but the spoiler for the home crowd was the huge presence of Artis Gilmore for the Knicks; just 11 points but 20 boards and a mahusive 9 blocked shots on his way to a huge defensive player of the day rating.  New boy Vern chipped in 15 on 6 of 7 shooting and Cousy double doubled with 10 and 14 before fouling out and leaving Bobby Mac to finish running the show and setting up Hawk for the winner.  NYK has no championship dreams this year, but rumours of another big trade or two are circulating that may continue to see them grow...

( 2- 0) New York Rens 29 17 22 32 - 100 (Scott Fisher 27)
( 1- 1) Washington Gene 34 12 29 22 - 97 (Dominique Wilkins 23)
The other New York team is also 2-0 with a great away win over the much improved Generals in the capital.  Nique as always played at a high level and had the home crowd looking at a 2-0 start until a fourth quarter explosion by Scott Fisher who simply could not miss hitting all 7 of his field goal attempts in the final quarter and quickly turning a 10 point deficit into a three point win.  Hal Greer had a chance to pull it back and send it to overtime but his long bomb clanged harmlessly off the back iron as the buzzer sounded and the crowd died with the game.  Schayes continues to impress in his Generals uniform (!) though with 14 points and 15 boards and matched Charles Barkley pretty much toe to toe, but Drexler provided much of the victory keeping the Rens in the game with his 21/7/8 all rounder game.

( 0- 2) Anderson Packer 16 23 26 33 - 98 (Wilt Chamberlain 29)
( 1- 1) LA Stars 34 32 26 23 - 115 (Shaquille O'Neal 28)
The Packers are 0-2 wow!  Chamberlain against Shaq was the billing and didn't disappoint as the two self-proclaimed greatest went at each other from the opening tip and fought to an absolute stand-still with almost identical stats for the game (and only 1 assist between them note).  Spencer Haywood quietly proved his worth with 19 and 16 of his own but the difference was Steph Curry and his near triple double performance of 13 points, 10 assists and 9 boards on 4 of 7 shooting in just 30 minutes.  Jamison was a perfect 7 for 7 from the field onway to 14 quick points of his own as the home town Stars got their first win of the year.

( 1- 2) Golden State Wa 15 33 28 26 - 102 (Bob Kurland 18)
( 3- 0) Hawaii Chiefs 35 19 31 27 - 112 (Bob Pettit 35)
Coach Kik Snr will really like this one, taking out anticipated heroes the Golden State Warriors on his home court and off to his best ever 3-0 start behind a huge 35 point haul by Bob Pettit (and 12 boards of course).  Kurland's 18 and 11 paced the Warriors who tried every combination of their players in this one, but it was the interior defense of the Chiefs that stopped them almost every time - 13 blocks and 50 rebounds for the team - 5 blocks by Yardley alone!  No George McGuinness today or next game for the Warriors...

That's all folks....
