UBAL 10 playoffs day 1

Let's get this party started!
Easy wins, two buzzer beaters, smack downs and even an upset... Rip it Pink!

Injuries
Derrick Rose 13 (Patella Tendinitis) - out for the playoffs?
Mike Conley 1 (Back Spasms)
Richie Guerin 1 (League Suspension – game altercation)
Brian Taylor 2 (Neck Ligament Sprain) - recent hot streak...
Mike Woodson 1 (Knee Soreness)
Horace Grant 7 (Knee Partial Ligament Tear) - big loss?
Rudy LaRusso 1 (Elbow Inflammation)
Caron Butler 12 (Shoulder Separation) - playoffs gone and hit for the Oaks?

( 0- 1) TORONTO 32 28 26 31 - 117 (Paul Millsap 28)
( 1- 0) HOUSTON 37 29 33 30 - 129 (Jimmy Jones 24)
Has the playoffs started for Houston yet? Could have been regular season out there as they go about their business as they seem to every day. JJ continues to do damage as he has all season, Stockton and Malone are firing and a reasonably comfortable first round win. Millsap was solid in defeat for the Raps, but they'll need a new strategy in game two...

( 0- 1) ORLANDO 23 31 24 27 - 105 (Bob Dandridge 27)
( 1- 0) CLEVELAND 35 20 24 29 - 108 (Dan Issel 22)
This is going to be a series... It took the Magic two thirds of the season just to get going so don't let the records fool you, the Cavs need to be at their best to beat out the Magic. Today was too close for comfort, solid games by Garnett and Dandridge but Issel was the all round player of the game and held off the attack until fouling out late in the game. The Magic did have a buzzer beater that would have tied it but Brandon Jennings final fling bounced harmlessly off the front of the ring and no one could chase down the rebound in time.

( 0- 1) BOSTON 16 24 24 26 - 90 (Brandon Knight 13)
( 1- 0) HARLEM 33 33 23 34 - 123 (Brian Taylor 26)
The Rens suffocating defence today was led by Wilt as usual whilst Boston never settled in to any kind of rhythm after an appalling first quarter where they shot less than 30% and gave up 33 points. Can they rebound? Maybe they can use the injuries to Brian Taylor (top scorer today and number one hot shot) and Ho Grant... Pippen, Wade and Harden all looked scared today... When your top scorer is your point guard with 13 you've just played a bad game.

( 0- 1) NEW ORLEANS 26 27 26 26 - 105 (Larry Nance 21)
( 1- 0) CHICAGO 27 34 35 33 - 129 (Chet Walker 27)
Bulls up! 1-0 to be precise after a careful dismantling of the Jazz in game 1. Great team basketball by the Bulls with the Jet firing in 27 to lead all scorers. The game just never seemed in doubt for Chicago and the Jazz need to find some mojo if they're going to make a series of it. Magic with 14 dazzlers but no one other than Larry Nance wanted in today for NO.

( 0- 1) MIAMI 30 25 20 18 - 93 (Charlie Scott 20)
( 1- 0) DALLAS 31 27 28 31 - 117 (Jerry West 21)
Another easy win? Yeah but the damage was all done in the second half after a close first half when both Sherman Douglas and Hakeem fouled out in the first few minutes of the third quarter. Dallas and logo West never looked back in driving home the advantage and the game was never close again.

( 1- 0) SAN DIEGO 41 32 33 34 - 140 (Alex English 26)
( 0- 1) OAKLAND 27 34 27 21 - 109 (Reggie Miller 22)
Wow! The Oaks played 82 games for a narrow home court advantage over the Qs and this was emphatically wiped away in a game one barrage that had the people of Oakland shell-shocked as the Qs ripped their defence for 140 points. The pace of the game made the Oaks look old and slow as they were repeatedly penetrated like a... Let's just say it was all too easy! To add injury to insult Butler was playing well before taking a hard knock from Kobe that separated his shoulder (having recently recovered from this injury I go with ouch and suspect no more Butler this playoffs) - he was also credited with the foul on the play!

( 0- 1) KENTUCKY 33 27 29 25 - 114 (Donnie Freeman 21)
( 1- 0) INDIANA 32 28 33 23 - 116 (Kevin Love 26)
Surprise surprise the closest of the night belongs to the Colonels and Pacers match up that promised a tight encounter between close rivals. Indy rides the coat tails of Love most of the game but a furious finish. With time expiring Chris Webber's game winner was wiped out by a huge block from George Mikan (one of five on the night). The Pacers called time out with three point six on the clock and brought in gunner Antoine Walker. A sweet little flex screen by Love saw Walker catch and shoot off the inbound as time expired to send Kentucky home winless and the home town fans crazy. Still the Colonels have a couple of key injuries so this one is far from over.

( 0- 1) MEMPHIS 18 31 31 23 - 103 (Tracy McGrady 20)
( 1- 0) BALTIMORE 26 35 30 32 - 123 (Pau Gasol 22)
The Claws wanted heart and soul from Pau Gasol (great rhyming Nige) and they got it as he fired in a game high 22 including the spark play in the fourth when he slipped past TMac and slammed it home to cap a 10-0 run that sealed the game. Allen Iverson shot a poor 5-21 but his constant running exposed the Grizzlies point guards and Chuck and Gasol did the rest.
