Rich Jones pours in 33 to no avail and Maravich 12 dimes are spent on nothing in a hard to swallow home loss. No real stand-outs for Miami, just good team basketball.

The poor Lakers have not had a great deal of success this season so weren't expecting much out of a visit to a rowdy NO bunch. But boom! A one point victory as TD tips in at the buzzer for his 13th rebound and 18th points and breaks the hearts of the New Orlean's faithful who had seen their team recover all the way back from an awful 12 point (yes, 12) opening quarter to take the lead with a few ticks left on the clock. Duncan was a thorn all game long and Ewing's stellar 22 and 16 performance left a sour taste as he failed to box out Timmy on the final errant shot. Great win for LA but where to from here.

Toronto is making some noise and moves 6 games over .500 for the first time in history! KD is the silent assassin as they take out a much improved Utah Star outfit. Utah has bolstered it's front court with Kemp and Howell both doing what they were supposed to do (Kemp 11 and 16 in 22 mins) and Hakeem blocking shots (and fouling out for a change) but they were let down in PG play where Cousy and Strickland combined to shoot 3 of 16.. ouch! Rose outplayed them both but didn't shoot that well himself; it was the all-round play of Greg Monroe that was the difference going 7 of 9 with 13 boards and 5 assists with a couple of blocks. Gay was blistering with 20 points in 24 minutes too. Bum.

Dr J against St Louis is not a fair matchup. St Louis hang tough on their home floor and almost did enough to seal it, but the good doctor took over in the final few minutes and the fate of the second worst team in the league was sealed. KJ had a tasty double-double too for Cleveland; Hawkins and Clavin provided offensive punch in defeat for St Louis - although Mack did fire off 29 shots for his 22 points.

Eddie and Felix provided the best resistance they could..

Don't award it to Chicago or Houston yet claim the Rens behind Derek Smith's monster 43 points in 35 minutes (no assists surprisingly!). Wilt fouled out without even getting double-digits, Pierce was awful with nearly as many TOs as points but Ho Grant and Smith were just enough against Kik's Colonels. Jabbar and Wilt cancelled each other out, but Kentucky need more out of Hardaway to challenge for number 1 spot.

Nice clash between two highly rated teams and the homecourt advantage proves enough for Baltimore as they build a big lead in the 2nd quarter and hold on for the easier than expected win over Bill Russell and his Boston Celtics. Unfortunately for Boston, other than Russell noone was able to step up against the hot and cold Claws. When this Claw team is hot they seem to be able to beat anyone; Robbins, Barkley and Gasol owned the glass with only Bill on the other side and Redd fired in 4 triples and a bunch of long deuces in the win.
